Its to the point now the cops just log in and download your gps data. Most carriers have a webportal for police and don't need any warrants or even a request made just log in punch in the number and there it is your privacy destroyed. Sprint was one of the first in the US to open a web portal for cops and they had over 8 million uses of it in a little over a year. They said police are supposed to produce a proper legal demand but that basically says a cop said in a communication "it is an emergency" no judge signing a warrant nothing just a cop can ask and say its needed.

This patriot act crap and anti terrorist crap pisses me off. It would just be better if our leaders just stopped abusing the third world so much they wanted to kill us. Now the iraq war just made a whole new country filled with people that will be willing to avenge their fallen family members.

Nothin' new there Rupe, 50 years ago we had a telephone you cranked the handle on to get the exchange, it was a party line, so all the neighbours knew our every movement...!!!

But this "rootkit" keystroke logger... even captures username/password data... that's supposedly encrypted over https... Which means none of your data and transactions are safe... including any online shopping, banking, bill payments etc... Nor are your contacts, sms texts, photos... or your browser history... which can all be onsold to businesses..and databases...

Probably why I am on my 4th new credit card that just arrived today. After two attacks on it and new cards issued , I have hardly used the last one, and only with companies I am pretty sure are ok. Last week got a call from the bank saying that they had detected a small fishing transaction of $1 and was it me. Of course it was not so they stopped the card and sent me the new one again. Gonna have to change the saving/spending habits so these cards are not needed

It is already possible to do this online as well, for those that know how.. so its not just phones that arent secure. Those that know what they are doing dont even need to crack the SSL to see the data.

Just like our anti-terrorism laws, they should be more aptly named "anti liberty laws" Just an ongoing incremental erosion of our personal liberty and private property laws. I wish we could vote for US presidents. If Ron Paul got in we would truly see a change for good in the world.

Can I just jump in here on the Blackberry side of things. There is a lot of mis-information about this when it comes to BlackBerry perpetuated by uninformed "journalists". There is not one instance of this ever being reported as being pre-installed on a BB. Yes, you can download the BB version from the Carrier IQ website and install it. But guess what, it ASKS you for all the permissions necessary and you have to grant them. It is not signed with a master BB certificate which would be necessary for it to be able to capture this data without your knowledge. Even if you do install it, since it is not a core component it can be removed easily. Just look it up in your applications list. There is no way any non-RIM software can get into the core components. We design BB devices so this sort of thing cannot be hidden on them. After all they are secure devices. Yeah, I know what I'm talking about here. I'm a software developer in the R&D department of Research in Motion.

I guess the sheeple don't really care... If people don't seek the truth and hold those accountable for wrongdoings, who will ? and where does that lead ? All that is required for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing.
