Post subject:  BEER, WINE, SPIRITS...what have you tried lately?

Not sure if there has been a thread on this topic so thought Id start one up. The truth is, I love beer, lots of lovely beer. Always have, probably as early back as childhood...or even the woom..

I also like to try many kinds of beer, so now I would like to put my extensive training into a thread and post whats hot and whats not (on my taste buds). Feel free to add anything you like, whether it be an agreement, objection, comment or complaint. Everything is welcome, all new alcohol posts need to be a photo followed by personal scrutinies.

I often wonder when Im walking around the bottle shop and I see something new.."hmmm, wonder if someone has tried this out yet?"

So here we go, bought this one today, Its called BROO, 330mL of 4.6% lager. Has an imported type flavour which was unexpected. Its Australian, its a premium-no preservative dark beer. Kinda sweet but also a little dry.

On the charlie meter I give it a 6 out of 10. Would I buy it again you ask?...no.

I found the Broo to be a simple, easy drinking hot weather beer. certainly nothing to write home about.

with the weather like it is, i've moved to campari and soda or bacardi lime and soda. and simple, cold bitter beers, like XXXX bitter, or squires golden ale, depending how rich I feel...

I like the squires pilsner. Very nice. My Fav beer of all time is Coopers Vintage, you can only drink a couple as its quite strong, but pure perfection.

I didnt mind the broo, was an ok beer especially when it came with a 6 pack of bundy as a promo...
The problem is it usually seems to retail at around $50 and I can usually find Boags Draught for $38, which IMO is an excellent brew, as opposed to broo...

The ginger beer is great as I put some grated ginger in there to give it some bite. About to put on another batch as its warming up.

We have been flat out brewing for the last few months, trying to get as much beer into bottles as possible before it gets too hot for the yeast. Probably 150 litres to last till Autumn, might have to supplement with shop beer.

Badger1972 - have you got a recipe for the ginger beer or do you use a kit? Have been making non alcoholic ginger beer for years but would love to try an alcoholic version!

As for favorite brew - any brew I can't see through.

I use the ginger beer kit from Big W. Add around 2cm of grated fresh ginger and use 500gm of feuctose to sweeten. Add around 3 kg of dextrose to get the alch vol up. Have it over ice is great and I leave it in the bottle for at least 4 weeks.
