Hiya..

I have noticed that there are photo's of the fish in Ponds that appear to have a Glare, so the Fish don't seem to be noticeable or are obstructed....

I'm not a Professional Photographer I just Dabble.. but I have learnt a bit about taking better photo's of Fish/water..

The Key is to use a Polariser filter to take the photo's..

If you go Fishing and you Don't have Polarised sunglasses you can't see the Fish, if the water is Clear.. Put the glasses on and they Pop out.. Found that out when I was up at Jarvis Bay[NSW]..
I have Polarisers for Both of my camera's.. Digital SLR's. They can hake a Difference in what you see in the photo's..

I will post a few Different Pic's so that you can see the Difference..
There are other ways to make fish Pop out.. But I'm Still learning how to do that..

Psst the best Polariser I found is the type that you spin to change the setting's..

Any advice or ideas would be welcome, its so hard to take good fish photos, both in ponds and in aquariums

If you are using a point and shoot camera, easiest way to add a polarising filter is just stick some polarised sunglasses in front of the lens.
Then rotate to get the least reflection.

Hiya..

Here a few photo's..

to show the Difference..
Photo's are not all the same but they will be from the same location.. but may be different..

With the polariser set right..

Not set Correctly.. notice the glare off the top of the pond..

A different pond.. Notice the detail of the depth, Pond is 6 feet deep and crystal clear..

With the Glare.. P Not set..

Polariser Set.. You can see better details of the Fish..

Sorry for all the Koi Photo's but While I was travelling in America I dropped in and saw quiet a few Koi Pond's..

I have a Few Other Pic's.. But not of Koi ponds that show the difference between with and without filtration..[Just have to load them up..]

Yep the polarised ones are heaps better, havent got an SLR myself, but ill give the sun glasses thing a go and see if i have any luck. Any thoughts on taking pics through an aquarium? It tends to work better without the flash, but still hard to avoid the reflection off the glass...

Always take your photos on an angle. Means the flash doesnt reflect back.

Oh, and clean the glass first

Yep..

If in a Large Aquarium Like the one in Georgia Atlanta never take photo's straight on.. Shoot on a slight angle..

the photo's should turn out ok..
Also Large Aquariums in most case Don't use Glass But a Clear Plastic..

Yes I went to the Largest Aquarium in the World... Was an eye opener.. No I did not do the behind the scene Tour..

Psst if you have a semi-professional setup you can really make the fish Pop by using a Remote flash to light the fish from the side's..
