Damn not having a water tank! we've had about 2.5 days of rain on and off here. been humid as buggery, but last night was the first night i've heard crickets in the backyard, loud as, in the back yard. all i have is a piddley 200lt drum catching water off half the gararge roof, and that was already full. just listening to the rain hitting the ground outside and thinking that i might just bite the bullet and by some crazy volume water tank........around the 10kL size. |

Steve, We put a 10,000 litre tank in a couple of years ago and it's one of the best things we did. While we've been down on rainfall during the past couple of years, the tank has always caught enough of what we have received to remain about half full all of the time. Our block is sloping and we located the tank high on the block so that we can gravity-feed the water anywhere we need it. We drink the rainwater and use it in our AP system. Gary |

I bit the bullet and bought a 18,000 litre tank. Was on order for ages, but arived about 6 weeks ago. Only problem was I had installed my AP system in the path needed to get the tank where I will be installing it  so it has been just sitting on its side near the shed.
Last weekend I moved the ponds to make passage for the tank, so I must pull my finger out and instal it before the rain stops for the summer. |

Quite funny actually, i was on the net at about 11pm and got a sudden attack of the "sleeps" i went for a lie down in the airconditioned lounge room and woke up at 2:40am with a piece of 90mm PVC under my neck as a pillow :shocK: woke up, had a ciggie while i checked the forum for our US friends posts, and then went to bed. also did some quick maths at 2:46am can some oe check it gararge rood is 3.5m x 2m (approx) we had 9mm rain between 9am and 3am. i worked out that this would have been 630lt in one day off the gararge roof. |

I have a downpipe that goes nowhere. So yesterday I put a 40 litre bucket under it with a 12 volt pump to pump it to the gaklv tank down the back. I reckon I put a couple of thousand litres in there over the last day |

 Sorry, but I think you are out by a factor of 10 Steve - its only 63 lt (1mm rain on 1 sq metre = 1 litre). Sanity check - an IBC is about 1 Metre cube and holds 1000 Litres.

Know what you mean, I'm still renovating like crazy which is why I'm only a VAP (Virtual Aquaponics Person ) and because we moved in late november last year I had in my mind "rainwater tanks need to go in just before winter"  ;...everytime the rain pours down I tend to rant and rave about wasted water...
Sigh only another month or so and I can start organising fish tanks and grow beds; until then I can only drool at the pics of others systems and get really upset with some people who have obviously set out the make sure that no matter how over the top my plans are they'll still look small 
Oh well at least I get to benefit from the wealth of experience of others
