gday lads and lasses just wondering if im finished cycling yet my amm at one stage was greater than 8 has now dropped to 0 my rite at one stage was greater than 5 has now dropped to 0- .25 my rate at one stage was 80 - 160 has now dropped to 0 - 5 am eagerly wanting to get fish on monday now just have to figure what fish to put in it.... thinking i might get some advanced trout or silvers. as it gets hot in the next couple of months in melbourne i would really like to get trout as my 1st system has only got around 150ltr of GB i was thinking of only getting 10 fish. if any one can see a problem with this any comments would be greatly appreciated cheers TROY |

Do you have an ammonia source? If so add some until you get a reading of around 1 and test Amm/Nitrite/Nitrate then test again in 24 hours and hopefully they will all be 0/0/X (Nitrate isn't really a problem). NOTE: Using urine as an ammonia source has a delayed reaction. It will take a couple of days for the urea to be turned into ammonia. I think 10 fish for 150 litres will be a little high. Can you add another growbed? |

I agree that 10 advanced trout would overload your growbed. I would halve that or add another growbed |

Yeah right!!! how long has your system been running/cycling?, how big is your fish tank??? these will also have an impact on the amount of fish. generally every 100l of established GB can support 3Kg of fish. 150l of GB = 4.5Kg for fish. 10 would be ok if they are only 200grams (2Kg), But if this is your first attempt then you must keep a real good eye on things. ie water tests, salt system to 1-2 PPM for new arriving fish, ration feed and keep in contact with the BYAP forum... (Can not have enough GB, if you can get another one on line it would give you a larger margin of error. regards Matt |
