It’s over 12 years that we extended the house. With the old kitchen demolished I made a new one, with chipboards, Lauan ply for veneer and lots of glue and elbow grease. The ball bearing drawer runners that I could find at that time now started falling apart so had to replace them, and did it with a much sturdier ones. Being much bigger and the original ones embedded in the drawers I had to recut recesses to fit them in. Just finished and pretty happy with it. And my DW does have another project lined up but I’m not exactly in a hurry to start it. On earlier projects, where needed I would use a free version of Turbo CAD but its not free any more and except for some time limited demos there’s not a decent free Autocad clone. Did find a good and free CAD but very different, makes me feel like an idiot. It’s Siemens’ solidedge/free2d Must register to download.

Nice work SS, not often you see someone making their own kitchen.. Still just goes to show you, you're drawers are holding up ok, it's the pre-manufactured bits that didn't last.. |

Another project finished, to my DW satisfaction. No chipboard this time but cheap 12 mm structural ply, C/D sides grades, HW mouldings and lots of glue and leftover of timber floor varnish to finish it off. One side of the ply was quite good, with only a bit of very fine sanding needed but the D side needed a lot of sanding to make it acceptable.

In a shed mantis There shouldn’t be a space left for a mouse to hide from your cat.Did you get it yesterday? Been to that store last Sunday RB, its huge but most of the things on offer are not exactly to my liking. Not expensive but do look cheep and flimsy. Worked on Mulgrave freeway for three months in ’73 when I arrived here. Albion Reed had dispatch office and machinery depot behind the cemetery somewhere where’s the shopping centre now. Did look very different then. Had problems with the PC’s second of the three HDs. Bad sectors. But now, ignoring that drive, it boots without freezing in the process. Decided to replace both, C & that D HD to start clean when I get the time for it. Wit everything B/Upped regularly on a forth portable I should be OK. |

Been a while, had to deal with couple of issues, first the PC, two of its three drives, C, getting much too cluttered and slow without a clean OS reinstall for over two years, and D (Data) with corrupted sectors stalling nearly every boot. With everything regularly backed up on the external (4th) HD, (the third is Photo/Video drive), got in two decent size HDs, 1Tb each and a two port serial (RS232) card as well. After matching the ports, my picaxe protoboards connected at first try. Will make life easier now. Nearly finished reinstalling everything needed when hit by the TIA, (and I don’t mean “Auntie” in Spanish). Not as bad as one of the medications that nearly bowled me over. A weak later another trip with the ambos and this time a less effective poison prescribed makes the life more enjoyable. Lots of new stuff everywhere, will not even try to catch up. Didn’t get back to the “Electronics 101” forum since first picaxe landed in aus and now found it here. Where is BYAP heading? But would recommend PICAXE to everybody, programming it is certainly more fun than Sudoku. Cheers, Steve S. |
