Watched the documentary Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead last night on Netflix, sounds straightforward and sensible to me. Anyone here tried juicing, seems like a good proportion of the fruits and vegetables can come from AP. Guy is Australian so maybe folks here know more details?

I have had a juicer since leaving school (onto my 5th unit) and i love em.
never seen the docco tho.

what i do know is drink juice withing 18 hours or you loose minerals and juicing removes almost all fibre so you need to suppliment. (nearly everyone does these days anyway).

My personal favourite is Apple, carrot, celery and ginger... tastes great also very very good for you. And if you separate the apple pulp adds a very full flavour to homebrew apple ciders.

I just signed up yesterday to complete my degree in nutrition and naturopathy so i might be more helpful with this sort of thing later down the track... like 15 years haha

+1 :laughing3:

if you new haha be careful as it can clean you out pretty quick. especially if you add spirulina, wheat grass or powdered greens. I think it might have something to do with lack of fibre.

I read the title, Juicing, and for some reason thought this thread would be about steroids.... Darn, I was hoping you were going to tell us how to pump up our trout!

I prefer to just blend things, that way you still get all the fibre to go along with it... some apples, carrots, capsicum, a plum or two or handful of berries or melon, chuck it all in the blender and blast it for a minute or two....

And if it's a weekend add a slurp of vodka.. Only thing is that you have to be careful how many you drink, cleans the insides out really well... :)

It seems when you garden or AP you often get suplus veggies. You can easily use it up juicing, and benifit greatly. I purchased a Champion juicer in 1980 and have been using it regularly. It not only uses up surplus veggies but is my best medicine for any sort of health issue. It has a large 1/3 H.P. motor and juices very fast. I have a grain mill attachment and mill wheat, rye, or barely for bread making every week or so. Put in a blank screen for homogenizing stuff like baby food and make peanut butter. I buy 30 lb. box of roasted peanut butter stock from a heath food store and that makes 30 pints of peanut butter. It has no salt, oil, or sugar added, tastes great and does not seperate. That is a two year supply even tho we use it in fudge and brownies
If you juice daily you do not need to take mineral supplements. Comercially raised fruits and veggies are often grown on depleted soils so are defficent in minerals. but juice may contain four times the amount of produce as can be consumed by eating. Plus you are consuming the produce raw vs. cooking out the enzimes

The goodness starts going after 10 minutes....
Have grown weat grass juice before - you need a cold press juicer, the fast ones destroy the enzymes...great stuff though

Just do not go strictly store bought fruit juice. It may overpower your system with sugar like it did mine and develop a kidney infection (which is rare for males) in 1-2 weeks. I was even buying the stuff with very minimal additives. Mix in a few veggies or pulp and you should be great though! And yes, raw fruit and veggies start to oxidize within 15 minutes of cutting open so it is best to juice right before consuming.

I've been juicing for almost 20 years now! Some favorites are: Carrots with Apple. Watermelon by itself (seedless are better for the juicer).

Favorites to add: Slice of ginger root, one spear of celery.

later,

jeff c

P.S. I also grind my own grain into flour and make my own bread every two or three days. YUM (this is where I get my fiber)

Has anyone here gone on a several day juice fast like in the movie. The guy in the movie went to the US and did a 60 day juice fast. The idea was to lose fat and toxins kind of mark a dramatic transition to a healthier lifestyle and eating habits.

The first half of that movie is kind of like the guy is trying to sell something albeit there were no secrets to it it was fully described what he was doing and very simple. So if it was just the first half of the movie that would have been one thing but in the second half it got more interesting and actually touching. Pretty much every overweight American could relate to the guy in the second half of the movie (spoiler: a truck driver from Iowa who weighed over 400 pounds who was basically killing himself with food, had a good outcome from juice fasting to under state it)

One reviewer called it Super Size Me in reverse, if you can imagine that.
