You have mentionned that you like to propagate plants - what do you like to propagate. I assume from 1 reference that orchids are one type of plant that you do. |

I do propagate orchids, but mostly terrestrial type native orchids. Things like sun orchids, donkey orchids, greenhoods. I have been involved with propagating the fragrant donkey orchid, believed to now be extinct in the wild. The only surviving plants are in various backyards around melbourne and a large number at the zoo. We (the group I'm doing this with) won the Banksia prize for conservation for our work. We have been using tissue culture and invitro germination. I also like alpine species - I have quite a collection of australian alpine species, mostly daisies such as craspedia, also many species from the Epacridae. I grow a lot of WA species, such as eremophila, vertichordia and prostanthera. I collect and propagate triggerplants and sundews and occassionally sell them to other collectors. Other than that, I'm always trying new things to see what makes plants tick and learning to grow fruit and veggies in a basically permi way. I also grow local native species (indigenous) and give them away to neighbours with the strange idea that I might spread goodwill and friendship and get people more interested in what the local land has to offer. I'm sure I've forgotten something... Oh, I used to grow mosses at our old house in fish tanks, but we don't have room for them here, so I gave them away. |

Well done NJH, I think that is a marvellous thing to do  . I wish more people would. I wish I could, but I don't seem to have the green thumb that my mother had (maybe she took it with her  )
