Basically, I was basing it on current day, proven technology... Nuclear is proven to be cheaper now (it is in the end of suburbia doco)... and is all that matters when the government is concerned. It will end up costing billions in the future but the poli's can't think that far ahead. Solar/geothermal plants or solar heated air updraft power plants may be the solution, but they are still costly and unproven/emerging systems (unproven in gov. eyes).

The silver that make up the mirrors is expensive, they crack and tarnish. Same with the glass in solar thermal plants, they need cleaning, they crack and the glass that is required is expensive.... Once these prove themselves to be economically viable for the future, maybe the gov will pay more attention...
