I heard it said that every time a person comes up with a new idea within a year at least 3 other people around the world try to patent it also.

I know every time I have had a great idea some one else always gets it to market.

There might be something to the 100'th monkey idea.. Some one needed to shoot the 100'th monkey that created banks before it was too late.. oh well.. to bad...

Another natural pattern I see is the fact the people never really change, always resorting back to the worst and killing another to get their way. Another pattern that keeps coming back is slavery, its more popular than ever. With $50 and a plane ticket to Haiti, one can buy a slave. This was just one of the difficult lessons writer Benjamin Skinner learned while researching his book, A Crime So Monstrous: Face-to-Face with Modern-Day Slavery. Skinner met with slaves and traffickers in 12 different countries, filling in the substance around a startling fact: there are more slaves on the planet today than at any time in human history. How much? After adjusting for inflation, Skinner found that, "In 1850, a slave would cost roughly $30,000 to $40,000 - in other words it was like investing in a Mercedes. Today you can go to Haiti and buy a 9-year-old girl to use as a sexual and domestic slave for $50. The devaluation of human life is incredibly pronounced." Imagine your life bought for another to use as they will. Then theres the masses who volunteer them selves for indentured servitude and think its a great idea, think they are free.

Theres the biggest worry, most people in western cultures willingly submit themselves into slavery. Not for life, just for most of it, then they retire and often die shortly afterwards due to the negative health impacts of their life spent "in slavery". We willingly give our own lives very little value, let alone other peoples lives.

Wow... this is deep. metaphysics IS a science. the 100th monkey theory is more real than anyone knows. there is just no way to prove it, yet... I know I have a very strong connection with my brother, I won't go into details because of disturbing results but my lil brother had a nightmare one night where he died, the same night I had a dream that he died. we have the same ideas all the time and often we both have 1 half of the idea to make the full idea possible, if that made any sense. I believe we communicate telepathically through brain waves. someone said our brains are the best computers on earth. if that is true then it's not hard to believe that something inside our head acts like a modem. sometimes you just know something but no one has ever told you about it. what was this thread about again?

We live in an oil based 'civilisation' because a few people make a lot of money out of it, and control the money supply. There is no other reason.

We could be energy independant of oil if we wanted to be (or perhaps were allowed to be).

Not only oil dependant but soon energy dependant, if you check the start of the rise in oil prices it is linked to the fact that 80% of the independant companies of energy production systems have been brought by oil companies, and now gouvernement helps them to stay in power and subsidises their products with our money since they are dependant on their willing. The oil companies have also brought the biggest surface area to produce agrocarbs, they are going to stay the masters of energy.

The last escape is to get free access to plans to build energy production equipement and keep them out of the patented companies hands.

Anyway the new strategy seems to be to pull funding for the 'alternate' inventors; be interesting to see how the new batteries go, nano titanate, nano wires and the new capacitor.

The biggest thing that seems lacking from these types of discussions is a working theory of economics. Like CRT said, peak oil is not a SUDDEN elimination of oil, it is a gradual (if exponential) rising in the price due to fixed supply and increasing demand. Yes, there will be shocks upward as large demands come onto the scene, but there will also be plateaus as new sources of oil are explored and adopted. Some examples in the US would be oil shale in the Rocky Mountains and tar sands in Utah.

So, the price of oil will go up and up. It will not disappear overnight like it did in Cuba due to an embargo.

As the price of oil goes up, the relative cost of retooling for a different technology goes down. In English, here's a hypothetical:

You decide to produce and sell electricity. Today, the cheapest way to do that and give yourself the most profit is to buy a diesel generator, fill it with oil, and run the turbine. You're happy for now, but over the years, the price of that diesel oil goes up.

Oh, no! The price of diesel has gone up so much your profits are non-existant. You start looking around for solutions. Ah, ha! Biodiesel. It's cheaper (regardless of internal subsidies), so you buy that to put in your generator. And again you are happy. But the same old process happens again. Now when you look around, none of the oil-based solutions are appealing. So you start looking at complete makeovers.

It turns out there are lots of interesting technologies out there to solve the same problem you have. There's PV cells, thin-film PV with nano antannae to capture near-infrared, wind turbines, water turbines, geothermal boreholes, etc.

You look back at your heyday and realize that if the world had just stood still, your first plant with its diesel generator seems to have been the most profitable. But that was then and this is now. These techs are more expensive, but less expensive than oil has become. So you bite the capital cost bullet and switch over.

Who knows, with a whole lot of other people out there doing the same thing, some of these technologies might get a lot cheaper through economies of scale.

Thus it is, and pretty much has always been, that the profit motive is what has built our civilization and its standard of living. Things change, they always do, and the conservation of engineering problems will always be with us.

Speaking of patenting. Its the same greed, but on a smaller scale, that keeps many inventions from getting out. I meat Paul Pantones bunch with the GEET fuel processor. It does work. They drove us around all day in a large 4 door truck on a glass jar of veggie 25% oil and 75% water. The problem is, again, greed. The inventor would never reveal the secrets of how it really worked to anyone because he was holding out for a lot of money. His 'dealers' paid huge sums of money to learn the secret and to later learn that Paul did not full understand his own invention. Had he of released this as public information it might have been possible that someone would have perfected the technology. The only problem was that the device had to be retuned (by hand) when elevation changed. We might have all had the option to drive using veggie oil at almost 200 MPG. Heck the thing ran forever running on waste crank case oil..

Now Paul is in jail for securities fraud because he took investment money from the wrong people and was not an authorized for securities. Of course it did not help that he was unable to deliver completed project; due to his lack of knowledge and greed (keeping it secret). Further, I would give you one guess as to who one of the investors was; the one that started the paper work get the gov on his @$$.

Normally I would 'chalk' stories like this up to conspiracy theories had I not seen the results my self.

I think that the question is : How do we reduce our energy needs? more than where do we take the energy from. The saying of continuing to consume energy like we do actually but produced by other means is the biggest part of those organisations that rule the world.

Following the idea of the diesel engine, why don't we find a way to reduce the needs of petrol before thinking of agrocarbs? And finding reducing energy solutions will also create a long term need for production and will then integrate itself in the world economics. And anyway if you follow that path of always finding a way to change energy without thinking of a better use of what you've got, you run towards the define end of all materials. All the products we are going to need the next 100 years are going to be non existing at the end. You can say that we will go on mining on the moon, on Mars and lots of other planets, but the same problem will occur again and again. Do we have to destroy what we were given by the universe? A good quote is the "Earth is not given by our ancestors but lent by our children".

And this counts in the total energetic cost of the product, not only on it's use. Anything we take and transform is define in time. If we could have all the brains that work on energy production systems work on feeding people and finding a way to save our planet, we would be fine for the next hundreds of years.

The stupid idea of consuming more to create production needs and jobs and a living for all of us is going to crash because the fight of the powerfull will always ruin the poor, but the rich always need poor to do what they don't want to do.

Actually there is always another country where the rich can leave to, but with globalisation this doesn't work anymore. If the people are ruined they are not educated and will never respond to the needs of the rich. You can say then there will be robots but the pleasure of having another human do the shity job for you is predominant in all humans, and robots can't give this feeling.

All the principal of the economics is to find a way to produce cheaper for more or less the same product. At one stage there won't be any China left to mass produce.

Each product should be costing his real cost, not the differenc between offer and demand. The real cost is taking the other issues in account like the environment, the safety, the workers happiness and such.

I'm not saying that a communist or socialist system works better, history has proven the contrary.

Freedom to create much be maintained, freedom to be dependant of others will must be also, this is what makes life interesting and evolutive. People must be educated to find the best way of living, not helped to live like it happens nowadays. People must have the choice to do good ro bad, but must be teached to do well (non organised religions can provide this but any organised religion will take their safety in account and for a more important value than happiness of the people).

We have to find a better way to live, economics is not a big enough domain to explain what the best system is. The system has to be global, not define.

The example with aquaponics is good, aquaculture is define, hydroponics is the same, but aquaponics outperforms the two, global solutions for a global world.

Anyway i agree with most of the posts here and am very glad to communicate with a tool made by this system and share ideas with people all over the world. Thanks for reading and thanks for posting to everyone.

Well, Im doing my part. We are installing a ground cool tube system that will eliminate our heat pump, the major energy consumer at our home.

You'll be living on an environment island soon DDMan. Have the people to pay to see when all is finished, so many infos and tools all grouped on one spot should be rewarded.
And you'll be payed to stay at home, how good is that

Boris, I like your sayings on the music poll, better having a half job done than nothing. Just have to keep the people behind him because this was why he was integrated in the gouv i suppose. And I suppose DR DEATH won't be kind with him if things change.
