by the way i used to work with some one who was a professional pig hunter for 20 years in NZ, they use dogs exclusively and there were times when the dogs would get out smarted or just plain beat up and the pig would get away, missing and ear or two! and they would loose dogs that would get disemboweled or would bleed to death from deep tusk wounds, the guy himself had to get air lifted out once after getting his leg riped open by a big boar the dogs couldn't bail or hold onto.

I should enter this installation in a modern art museum titled something like:

Polymer consumerism vs hunter ancestry.

Really neat story libertymtn, made my morning.

A bloke across the road bought back a little pigglet 2 years ago to our neighbourhood.

WOW, I never realized how out of control a hungry pig could get.

All started out semi OK, when it was a baby. But as it grew , like it was an AP system on steriods !! it actually started to scare the neighbourhood. It would fight with the dogs for their biscuit.

People would come home from the shop, groceries everywhere, as it can happen and there was Bacon digging around the bag for the loaf of bread.......

Ranger trying to catch Bacon....LOL....that was funny...threatened the owner on deaf ears about a farm animal in a built up areas.

If we tryed to scare it off, it would just charge !!

Then Bacon finally met his mate Spit .

:thumbright: Yep, the whole neighbourhood enjoyed that meal.

@libertymtn, I'm amazed that a pig could make friends with horses.

Ours was always too brash on the approach. Horses never seem to enjoy brash.

Our poor piggy would sometimes come in from a hard days work (being a roost to small birds that enjoy eating disturbed insects) with a perfect horse shoe bruise just behind his ear. It was as if he turned his head just enough to miss the full force, but couldn't move his feet fast enough to get away clean.

It was always is the same place, just behind his ear, and was almost a blood blister rather than a bruise.

And he never did seem to learn that the horse would hurt him. Or perhaps the horse liked him some of the time, but Zander couldn't tell when.

Given the size of Zander and the nature of the bruise, I would guess it would be death or very close to it for a human. A full horse kick with 250kg of piggish anvil trying to be friends, would be like a human pressed up against a brick wall being kicked.

Ouchie!

As we could not find a boar to come and service her- we tried using *straws* from a pig breeding firm and very fortunately for us -it worked first time! Not bad for £8.00- (a little bit cheaper than the £50.00 that boar owners usually charge.)
On the due date - 3 moths 3 weeks and 3 days from service -
Duchess managed to wreck her pen and destroyed the heat lamp that we had ready in case it got chilly - before she finally settled down - made her nest and promptly popped out all these little pink things!
That was at first light this morning - its now afternoon and mother and offspring seem to have settled down for afternoon feed and sleep.

We are ready for a snooze also - its tough being a human having to look after not only fish but pigs as well !!!

OH

We are still eating bacon and sausages from her last litter !

The breed is a mixture of Pietrain ( a belgian breed with big hams) and other champion sires.
That is the good thing about AI - as you get a mixture of 4 different boars semen . You can end up with a litter of differing looking piglets but all are prime excellent stock!

In about a weeks time - all being well - they can go outside ( it is meant to be summer here !)

They are nice and clean at present - but we have rain forecast for next week so don`t think they will stay like that for long - especially as Mum likes to WALLOW !
Mud is good for one - not only for the complexion - but its meant to be full of minerals etc !!
I think there`s a song = mud- glorious mud - nothing quite like it for cooling the blood....etc
