I am a big fan of the DLS. I get more time to do stuff outside with my kids after work

My kids go to sleep when they are tired or when I say so, which ever comes first. Clock/sun position/light levels do not come into it.

My kids use hats/sunscreen while outside with the sun up.

What amuses me most about the whole debate is how excited some people get over it. Why is it that our government will sent troops to invade countries on the other side of the world, but will only ask the populace their opinion on the big issues like changing clocks twice a year, and trading hours? Can't help thinking the whole debate is a ruse of the government's masking their inability to provide hospital beds and education

We will see come February, when the aircons go on and the power goes out and everyone is complaining about the heat :)

B2 Its the Federal Gov't responsible for 'security issues' not the States. Its business interests who push State referendums not the government being nice and really wanting our opinion. :)

DLS doesn't make the day hotter or longer... if you need the aircon going at 30 degreess... it doesn't matter whether it's 15:00, 16:00.... or 02:00...

It has NOTHING to do with DLS....

Ok Rupe, so if you get home from an airconned office etc at 3pm or 3.30 pm, as opposed to 4 pm or 4.30 pm you are telling me that it makes absolutely no difference? Did last year.
Also why did the Cancer Council change its website in regards to school children?
No comment on who pushes for State referendums?
I regard any change, imposed, without a mandate as very dubious; personally I don't give a flying *frack* about me, however I do about my grandchildren.
Lots to do with DLS :)

Power consumption does go up during DLS because of people getting home in a warmer part of the day. I dont even go inside - straight out the back and on the shovel

If it's that hot when you get home... that you need to put the aircon on... then, unless a major front and temp plunge happens about that time... an hour isn't going to make a difference... you'll still put the aircon on...

OK... so for an hour you run your home aircon, instead of using the "office" aircon.... personally... if it's that hot... do what I do, and thousands of others... take advantage of the glorious sunshine (and extra hour)... and go to the beach, or swim in the pool...

You're still only getting xx hours of sunlight, and heat, regardless of what the blooming clock says....

This one does make some sense... in as much as school lunchtimes were structured some years ago to take place about 1-1.5 hours after midday, the (theoretically) hottest and highest UV time... by pushing the clock, this does have a "potential" affect... standard rules apply... slip, slop, slap, hat & wrap....

Yep, it does intrigue me that "governments" are prepared to go to war without referendum, but float them for other, seemingly trivial reasons....

But by going to referendum... I think they should be a constant process  .... they will/are seeking a mandate... and you have the chance to vote accordingly.

But I say again.... DLS does NOT alter the length of daylight or influence the daily temperature....

It may alter our habits... and that's exactly what it's supposed to do... give us the time, warmth, and light to get out and enjoy some recreation/family activity... instead of spending the entire day in an "airconned" office...

Really... my power bill goes down substantially during DLS...

I don't have the lights on for as long... and I don't have the aircon/heater on...I don't have the TV on so much... etc

I'm outside enjoying the summer... playing cricket with the kids... having a BBQ with mates... swimming... fishing.... etc...

For all those concerned... you could stay back at work... that way you wouldn't have to run your aircon while you watched the summer season repeats on TV...

I take it that forum members in the smaller States, who rely on us to provide them with revenues, employment, the Forum and generally everything else that is useful have been 'voting' on what We should do!? I would ask for a recount, as they don't count. :drunken:

personally, if you would like to get up earlier, so be it........Myself and others hate it at he end of daylight saving when its just the crack of dawn nearing 7am.....and we all wanted to walk our dogs at the beach an hour earlier.......just wish it didn't go for as long as it does
