Steve

Provided a biodiesel crop serves more than one purpose, eg land reclamation, additional resource from the crop, possibly greater output than input (of energy). It of course should not be the only initiative.
Society's problem stems from where we live. City's are a result of what and required by whom?
Also, although there are supposedly great strides in technology we seem to be going backwards in great (useful) engineering projects. We have known about the 'energy' problem for years, nothing has been done. The greatest source of energy, is and always has been the sun, not some flash in the pan, recent use of oil. You use solar energy, why don't our machines?
Enough rant, not enough beer :)

i think we agree, but what i'm saying is that oil has been the "free" (comparatively) energy that has fueled the last century.

never before have we had an abundance or versatility (liquid/gas/solid) source of energy density.

and what many people (not most of us here) fail to grasp is that never again will we. bar some sci-fi zero point energy.

even more concerning is the masses are putting blind faith in the technology god to to deliver this deus ex machina at the eleventh hour.

the sun wind and water WILL sustain us, but NOT at the level we have become accustomed to.

Right on Steve. No one I talk to has any idea. They just spout that 1950s "we have 250 years of oil left" line... Even if that were true, why use it up for the grandchild's grandchildren? Seems kinda selfish. People down here are SO quick to say well Im not driving a small car. Im going to drive my suv/truck/hummer no matter what and theres plenty of energy for me.

I personally would love to have an MDI air car. I could power that from solar and wind power at my house.
