I already have a site that I can get harnesses from, much easier to let the dogs run and get towed than try to run with them.

'Course the locals will think I'm mad but it should be fun. :D

can you post the link, I have a leonberger and plan  to build a cart for him after I build the aquaponics thing.

Their scooters, carts, sleds page

Package Deal 1:

X-Back Sledding Harness & 1-dog line
Special Price: $60.00
(Normal price $64.00)
And you can use a standard bike if you like, thats all I'm going to uses to start with. :D

They have lots of good looking stuff on this site, it's well worth a browse around. My friend highly recommends them and says almost everyone she knows use their stuff and have never had a problem. You can get stuff imported but it's usually very expensive (2 or 3 times the price or more!) or very bad quality.

I went to visit Savage_Goldfish recently, and got to see the vicious beasts first hand. I was a bit confused by this particular genus though... Anybody know what it is?

DH says it's a flying fish.

As or the species, I think it's budgerigaris confusei.

Hey SG,
My bro races his 2 samoyd's in winter. Has a converted bike and goes bollocking through a pine forest early sat and sun mornings every week as long as the forecast is cool enough.

Much fun indeed - very noisy pastime but it's great.

Ali

I have an unusual topic- how about censorship in the U.S. Bear with me, this is a little round-about because as I research one thing. it leads to another...and another...and another.

I watched a PBS special about the discovery of a super volcano which caused an ELE event (also known as: mass extinction; extinction-level event) 75,000 years ago which created a mini ice age for, oh, for about a 1,000 years.
ELE link-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mass_extinction

It piqued my interest because they mentioned one such volcano existed in Long Valley, California and I wasn't sure where that was. I found out that it was located between Bishop, CA and Lake Mammoth- the entire area! After some earthquake activity, they built the Mammoth Escape Route but business complained so they changed the name to Mammoth Senic Route- just an interesting side note.
Anyway, I've been up there and have swam in Hot Creek and have also found out that this is now closed to swimmers since 2005 because of increased activity. I was already familar with another supervolcano, located under Yellow Stone Park. I've been there too and it is undeniable that there is massive volcanic activity there. So I'm cruising along and see a BBC docu-drama about 5 senerios that could create the "End of Days". Guess what?
Direct Quote-
Alternate versions
All original official sources cite five different scenarios including a giant volcanic explosion, but the volcanic explosion segment has never been aired in the United States. It has been edited out by the National Geographic Channel for unknown reasons and all references to it on the National Geographic website have been removed. Only the other four scenarios have been aired. However, the BBC website had the super volcano episode until it was removed sometime after May 28. 2006. UKTV History aired the version including the supervolcano segment on January 23, 2007. However, in the original BBC airing each of the scenarios showed the attempts of a family or person to escape the depicted disaster as well as following Dr. Howell, these segments were mostly cut from the UKTV History version aired in 2007.

Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that the Yellowstone supervolcano is overdue to erupt, the crust is actively rising and the scientists are increasing the monitoring of it's activity?
Quote-
The head of the Yellowstone Volcano Observatory, Jake Lowenstern, has proposed major upgrades and extended monitoring since the federal government classified Yellowstone as a “high-threat” system.

If that blew, where would the people of the world go to get away from it?
Food for thought!

I'm pretty sure those 5 episodes were aired here a couple of years ago. Makes you think huh?

Yep saw that series as well Angie.... also read papers that suggest that the US could effectively almost split in half along the Mississippi all the way to the Canadian border...

Back home in NZ where I grew up, we lived in the shadow of Mt Taranaki... a "dormant" volcano.... dormant in as much that it hasn't shown signs of activity since that occurred about 1755 and possibly in the early 1800s, when it blow a "mini" cone now known as Fanthams Peak out the side and the last major eruption occurred around 1655...

To the immediate left of the existing mountain are a series of two "mountain" ranges.... the remnants of two previous mainfestations of Mt. Taranaki.... which literally blow themselves to pieces.... that's a mountain of over 8000 feet.... blowing the top 6500 feet completely off..... five times....

Taranaki is considered unusual in that it has experienced at least five of its major eruptions by the method of cone collapse. Few volcanoes have undergone more than one cone collapse. The vast volume of material involved in these collapses is reflected in the extensive ringplain surrounding the volcano.

Recent research has shown that over the last 9000 years minor eruptions have occurred roughly every 90 years on average, with major eruptions every 500 years.

Taranki forms a branch of the main fault line through NZ that extends through 3 other active volcanos in the middle of the North Island.... again a "modern" manifestation of a super volcano.... that destroyed the "famous" pink and white terraces and buried several Maori villages ala Vesuvius/Pompei... again since white settlement in NZ.... an explosion thought to rival that of Krakatoa

The resultant crater lake remanants... Lake Taupo... are so deep that until recently the were un-measurable....

Scientists have long predicted that NZ is overdue for a massive plate sheer... resulting in a quake of magnitude 8.5 - 9.0.... or the simultaneous eruption of Mt Taranki, Ruhapeho, Narahoe, Tongariro and White Island..... to releive pressure.... or BOTH

According to Maori mythology, Taranaki once resided in the middle of the North Island, with all the other New Zealand volcanoes. The beautiful Pihanga was coveted by all the mountains, and a great battle broke out between them. Tongariro eventually won the day, inflicted great wounds on the side of Taranaki, and causing him to flee. Taranaki headed westwards, following Te Toka a Rauhotu (the Rock of Rauhotu) and forming the deep gorges of the Whanganui River, then heading north, forming Te Ngaere swamp. Further progress was blocked by the Pouakai ranges, and as the sun came up Taranaki became petrified in his current location.

When Taranaki conceals himself with rainclouds, he is said to be crying for his lost love, and during spectacular sunsets, he is said to be displaying himself to her. In turn, Tongariro's eruptions are said to be a warning to Taranaki not to return.

Maori ledgend also predicts that Taranki will eventually return and a violent battle of the mountains will rage...and in doing so split the island along the Whanganui River through the lakes and across to White Island... annihilating/assimilating all the other mountains into a single giant volcano....

If it weren't for Fanthams Peak... Taranaki would be the worlds most perfect volacanic cone... and from most angles rivals and is commonly mistaken in photos as Mt Fuji
