i saw most of that and thought much the same about the guy on the end

the wheels sub editor raised an interesting point about hydrogen in that the technollogy is there to do it just not the infrastructure for re-fueling and the service station and the storage of the hydrogen fuel

also another guy said that it was pointless using hydrogen cars if the hydogen is produced usin coal generated elec which i hadnt realy thought about but makes heaps of sense

Actually, at the moment, using hydrogen in cars would actually be MORE polluting. Normal car fuel is more efficient and produces less CO2 per mile than using 'average' electricity (which is a mix of 'green' electricity (solar panels, windmills, etc.) and coal and natural gas power plants, etc.) to make the hydrogen for the same mile.

BUT as the percentage of 'green' electricity increases, eventually hydrogen will be less poluting.

that is what he meant yes that it was pointless to use hydrogen that was manufactured using existing electrical power generation systems

maybe we should make things and grow things closer to home,
be more responsible for our real costs...

And another point is this.

Pepole say ok, so we make hydrogen out of wind and solar..............yeh right, so in the future we're going to produce all of the countries electricity requirements from "green", as well as the NEW demand of every liter of hydrogen for our current car fuel needs? Not a chance.

I think 'green' electricity will remain only a couple of percent of the total electricity produced, right up until most fossil fuels run out. At which point I think countries will start building more nuclear power plants...

this is the same old chestnut -- the more your have, the more you consume, the more waste..the more cost burden, the environment suffers.

The biggest issue we have here in Aussie is we have no growers of fruit and veg! Near to the city and regions, the last ten yrs has seen them leave the farms or subdivide their family farm because the city has come to them.
Urban sprawl, even Perth stretches 120K X 70 and will soon be 200K X 100.
With almost nil M/Gardens.
Which is why I like BYAP savings all around! :->) :-l) :o) :D

The chains stores have sold them down the river, and buy produce from china-- for eg.- coriander for some reason, now we are becoming reliant on salad veg chopped up for us in a plastic bag...

What happens when we get so many wind farms that the prevaling winds are slowed down enough to disrupt natural weather patterns? And what about disrupting the skyline? Hydroelectric is wonderful, but it usually floods a large area and changes the aquatic life in the area.

I would prefer the wind to change, than the temp keep rising and coverd in soot from pollution!

I've never seen any smog or soot from pollution, and I live in one of the most densely populated countries.. Guess we have favourable winds then?

I certainly would not prefer the wind to change, as we get our warm weather (for our latitude/longitude (forgot which), anyways) from the ocean winds..

Anyways, I don't think it matters much what we want from the weather/climate.. Either we (mankind) don't have any influence on it at all, or our pollution does have an influence but we're too far to stop it now..
