Could you line them with pond liners and fill them with water and have them as your tanks... One for fish, one for yabbies and duckweed, one for fingerlings and some beds above them The possibilites are endless

When I read Monya's ideas I started to think (aloud) along the same lines for my system (for home)... but the wife seemed to agree with Gary's wife...

I grew some snow peas seedlings in my trough with plastic, replanted in my raised vegie beds, and put snail and slug pellets around them. Most of them are gone 2 days later. Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Thanks

Hey Stuart, if you're still having slug problems, something I read that I haven't been able to try is that apparently caffeine is toxic to slugs. I guess they get a heart attack or something with just a little caffeine. When I first tried gardening a mere three years ago I tried planting lettuce, which was completely decimated by a horde of slugs. I tried putting coffee and coffee grounds around but the lettuce was too far gone to tell if it helped. It would be fun to experiment on a captive slug to see what coffee grounds or stale coffee does to them...

One of the reasons I am interested in aquaponics is that I can grow lettuce without it getting mobbed by slugs, since it is ten feet in the air (in my system anyway).

Cheers Dave, I still haven't worked out what ate them  It would appear that the only one left now are transplanted ones, all the ones that were planted straight into the garden have been demolished. Weird...

Thanks AM. The tank is 10,000 litres. Now if it would just rain enough to fill the bugger.
