I did a snake handling course a while back and the 2 guys running it were in love with all typres of reptiles and frogs etc, they seemed to know a lot about australian native and introduced animals and insect species. At one stage of the course the topic came up about cane toads and these guys gave a 2 hour lecture about how the introduced rabbits and bee's in australia are more destructive than cane toads and you dont see anyone going around giving them the cricket bat. I dont think he was defending the toads but it was an unusual point of view.

although I love the sound of that Charlie, even in my prime, which was a while ago. I'm pretty sure I could'nt run fast enough to belt a rabbit with a bat, and I'm afraid now the introduced bees are to small to see.

But I can still wack toads every night of the week :headbang:

Toads sound like fun target practice.

I only wish I could send you a box of them, but then I guess they would take over parts of the US, unless of course you are a very good shot. :D

Saw them on rat bastards(or gator hunter or swamp people???) the other night ,they were introduced in Florida
The US has snow to keep them a bit contained though.

native is blue introduced is red

I was hoping that tree hugger guy was still posting. Anywho, while yes we humans have done a lot of damage to this world, we have the capacity and means to undo that damage. Thought this was a good video of one way we can. http://www.wimp.com/greendeserts/

But what about an asteroid impact? Hell the dinosaurs didn't have any sort of space program to prevent their demise. Our ability to track near earth objects might be lacking but damn we at least we can somewhat. And we have the technology to deflect them, given we had enough time to do so. That's still at least better than the dinosaurs.

I'd say to people who are so disgusted with the human race and how destructive we are, just go kill yourself. One less human that is destroying the world, right? I should stop. Advocating suicide for tree huggers makes them angry. :upset:

No worries Bear, as long as you take the corpses home and dispose of them. perhaps thats a service I can offer to other "Oldies" too

I'm getting a bit of flack from the other half about the constant smell of dead toads down the back yard. Even though I either launch them into space over the back fence or dump them in the bin in a bag.

I should also look into making fertilizer out of them, but not sure about the poison sac.

Sorry sleepe missed that one. West Aussie Reptiles was the name of the mob. 2 blokes, one with dreadlocks (of course) and the other looked like he had been in the sun too long (understandably). Nice guys and really loved their reptiles. They have worked all over the world with the likes of Bear Grills and Steve Irwin.

Apparently if you hit a toad right in the mouth with a pitching wedge (8 iron or above should do it) you can completely cleave the little bugger in two, from mouth to a-hole.
Caution - Always wear safety googles

There is a mob up Darwin way who go collecting toads and throw them all in a container bin to ferment for a few months. They then drain of the liquid as fertiliser. They are always topping up with new toads

Frogs nearly explode when shot with a .22 rifle. I'd imagine a toad would do the same.....
