I've said it before but you guys really make me laugh.

This is how this post started in my mind.

Quote:
how much of our culture are you guy's exposed to"

IMO...TOO much...

Not me my tv when its on is either showing SBS or the ABC. If I come in and Sarah is watching some comercial rubbish I do the dominant male thing and tell (beg) her to change it to "something more intellectually challenging".

Then Timc mentioned the West Wing which has been one of my favourite shows. Then I looked at his avatar and then I thought of Steves and then I thought of Firefly and then I justed started laughing.

As much as some of us like to American bash its awfully amusing how those same people (me included) all so love some aspects of American Culture a lot. Some of my favourite shows/movies have come from the US but other things like computer games and RPGs (type of game not the munition) are dominated by US titles.

Dickhead.... that's what the bird dog's for.... throw him in the water ... duck flaps upward.... bang.... duck flutters down.... bird dog brings bird to shooter.... bird dog feels good.... shooter likes duck :D

My dear old fatherinlaw [god rest his sole and all his money] used to have duck when ever he wanted in the dam near his house he would feed the ducks in the morning with wheat in the evening the same this time there would be a rabbit trap just under the water when they get caught under water no sound

difference to me is that i KNOW BSG, SG-! etc are SCI-FI.

Reets had the tv on last nihgt casue i was hogging the PC , this was the line up. Realisty something or other US, the kiwi street security reality show, then as if they've struck the bottom of the barrel a reality funeral parlour show US.

I watch a bit of sci-fi to relax, and cant for the life of me understand why people want to watch other peoples lives to relax, but each to their own, i guess.
And yes, it does have an effect, i woke up this morning, and was talking to reets saying choice, come on bro, eh, choice. More for a laugh, but you get my drift. LOL, sorry ROZ!

Canada is a lot like AUs in its imitation of American TV Culture. I have had many Americans comment to me on how we resemble what they see portrayed on TV. The ironic part is its is only a 2 hour drive from my house to the states where you can see the actual culture in action. And I have to say the people of the north west states are not what you see on TV and even most of the Californians are a contrast of what we are shown.

To see how much American TV is affecting us i like to compare it to when i was a kid. It used to be you would see some commercial for the newest breakfast cereal and as a 5 yr old you understood it was only in America and it might make it to canada in 2 years or so. Now a days you see a comerical on TV and it is already instores on the shelf in french and english.

And don't you forget it..... I think I may have upset a few US residents as we haven't heard from them yet. Nothing against you guys but some of your TV shows really suck, so do ours and we are stuck with em all.

Before you say, then don't watch them then, way ahead of ya. I watch ABC and SBS that is it on commercial TV.

EB: The best night of television.......

Stu: I know it is ironic, but I applaud the Sci-Fi creators for sticking it out this long. There are countless good Sci-fi shows that are cancelled in their prime because of reality TV or another CSI spinoff...... Even our shows... eg Farscape had a good run untill the reality tv phase kicked in...

I don't watch TV so most of this is out of my scope. But in my opinion, the Hollywood has pretty much ruined American culture. The only reason that people watch "reality TV" is because they want to escape from reality.
