John Boston special larger, must be a few years old as it was from a presentation pack to Bond corp shareholders. Doesn't have an expiry date on, still a bit of fizz and a few floaties, its not too bad but not really like a larger, 6% abv so I will only have to have a few and go back to normal full strength. :)

Moody Cow Brewery (Dardanup - Down the hill from Troutman) on ANZAC day (Two years in a row, its got to be a ritual now)

One pint each of Black Dog Pilsener & Grunta's Original Ale - Someone had to drive! :(

Mrs Bee got stuck into the Simply Red Irish Ale. Very smooth!!

Best Steak sandwich ever. Med rare steak on turkish bread roll, smokey bacon, and green stuf so you can pretend its healthy..

Anyone tried Hawthorn beer? The Pilsner I'm not a huge fan of, but the Pale Ale is incredible! The usual boutique price - $20/6pck.

If you ignore the crappy economy, divisive politics, and disturbing expansion of government surveillance, it appears to be a good time to be 'merican.

After 3 days nursing a steam rail 'golden ale' headache I decided to try a fresh new beverage last night. I think it is often marketed as water - it was quite good, a kind of clear non-bubbly fluid with a mild flavour of not much. While it will not likely be replacing beer's pride of place in my fridge, I may well try another glass or two of water before the week is out. :thumbleft:

Believe it or not, Aldi's have a drinkable Dearborn Shiraz selling at $5 a bottle. If you want to just sit and quaff while watching your fish swim, at a barbie or watching the footy (sacrilege I know, right? But expanding waistline dictates less of the amber) it's a cheap way to go.

Bad luck on the H2 O experiment Gazza. The shit they try and sell as water down here tastes like .... We have to run it through a filter to get it to taste half reasonable, and stuffed if I will buy water, when its cheaper to buy almost anything else.

Went a little hard myself the other night with the wife away. A few tallies of my Australian Pale ale. Ohhh, just the thought of it makes my mouth water. I had been out for a run with the kids on bikes in tow and had quite a thrist on. Having to cook and get lunches and ... had me going for a few hours before I realised there were a few brown bottles in the washing up .

Had a few drops of Cow Bombie Shiraz last week. Bit in the cooking, bit in me, a bit more for me. Not too bad a local drop. Even had the wife drinking a bit. She is now starting to want to drink ciders and beers, not just sweet stuff like muscato. Tried the Cab Sav with spaghetti last night. Yum, yum.

Mrs B even asked me to put down a brew of cider. Haven't yet as I don't want to put any in my beer container, but maybe I'll put one down so we can enjoy in the warmer months, although that Rekordalinc (i know spelling is wrong) Winter cider is nice straight out of the bottle, and apparently warmed up.

Actually 1980 wasn't so bad, I can remember dime draws, none of the foo foo beer stuff at 3 bucks a glass 8). Ale was barely a vocabulary word at the time :)

I liked the micro brew stuff on the west coast, especially around Portland, Oregon, but tried some rubbish when I was in Atlanta. Sure it was just a one off.

One trip when I spent 3 weeks in portland, I made the effort not to drink any beers twice until I had tried all the local beers first. Drinking at least 3 beers a night (and a shit load on weekends) it took me into the third week before I could go back and try the best ones again. It was winter so I was back into the Porters. Some very nice choclate ones. Brown Bear I think was one of them. Brought back a six pack. I cried when it was all gone.

I don't reckon cider in the beer barrel would do any harm Dr Bee and happy wife, happy life!

I do love a chocolate mahogany porter, one of the most rewarding home brews I reckon.

American style IPA is certainly different from traditional (Engligh) IPA. I believe it's to do with both the varieties of hops used and when in the brewing process they're added (I'm certain quantity of hops plays a part too).

We don't often enjoy American IPA at it's best over here because it loses some of it's fresh hoppy characteristics when it's being shipped. Which is ironic given IPA was originally made for shipping to India!

I'm oversimplifying, but traditional (English) IPA: uses hops for their antibacterial properties; new style (American) IPA: uses fresh hops for flavour, added at the end of the brewing.
