Hey Dicko - have fun at your meeting :) . Can you give me a name for this type of tube - I'mm make some inquiries about cost and also take some measurements. It does however sound like housing all this stuff in the shed and having the 2 lines is the go (waiting for steve to say 'I told you so').

I think the conept design is close to completion. Might be nearly time to summarise :D .

Another good thing about keeping it 240V is that I already have a 240V photoelectric switch in my bag of silly ebay buys. Although designed to turn on when it gets dark - a relay will fix that :) .

Al right start again the compresser in shed set at 30 psi some of that air can be used in the aqua that valve that i am offering running on a $8.00 bunnings 240 volt timer with 2 ;1/4 bundy tube lines from the shed to the chook shed yes if the cylinder was brass by all means water that valve is designed to run water [have used 100 dreds as maint manager for dezurik valves for 10 years] been all over aust fixing other peoples f;;=' ups [the stories i could tell ]

Thanks F&F. Sounds the go. Won't bother running water myself. If you'd seen the shit that seems to come out of my compressor, you wouldn't want me to run any of the air through the AP system ;-) - must put the filter on it that I bought at one point (if I can find it :-/. Do you think that bundy tube might be a bit of overkill? I reckon I'll need to buy around 60 metres of tube to run the 2 lines.

WARNING !!! don't EVER use PVC for compressed air applications !!!

Thanks for that timely warning frank!!! 100% agree.

can't emphasize this enough !!!

Cylinder works on positive pressure advance & retract,

would it then be single or double acting?

Two airlines from the shed WILL allow every thing to be run from the shed,
and is a good idea, See what the tube costs, but it will be less than a decent 12v system.

please explain the last pert of the phrase.

The "Cheap Tube" I refer to is cheaper than normal airline but far superior in uv, quality etc.
It is used for "Pneumatic Circuitry" and capable of up to about 200 psi.

for underground piping I would go for 25 mm polyethylene

Frank - I believe Dicko is merely saying that the air tubing would cost me less than it would cost for me to buy a suitable 12 volt air pump to locate in the chook pen. Such a pump would essentially require the ability to start and stop at certain pressures and they are well over $100 to buy and more like $200. A decent 25mm poly (eg blue line or green line) may well cost more than a good quality air tube. It would however have the advantage of being very stable buried - ie no real chance of it getting crushed by traffic (pedestrian and the odd vehicle).

Ya gotta love being a Venturer leader..
2 hours a week, Plus the rest!

Frank:
Cylinder works on positive pressure advance & retract,
Therefore double acting, Valve tells it to extend, cylinder extends,
Valve tells it to retract, it retracts.

Cheaper than a 12v system,
The last time I installed a tyre pump into my 4x4 it cost me just over $400au (ARB very reliable, hard waring. Trust me I 've put it through its paces).
5 years later it is in need of replacement and will now cost nearly $500 to get the same standard. For that cost V.B. can run a tube from my place in melbourne and still come out in front!

"for underground piping I would go for 25 mm polyethylene"
The instalation we're talking about consists of 1 Ram, 32mm diameter, 250mm long, Probably overkill seeing we are looking for pressure not flow.

Please dont take offence to my reply, That is not my intention!
After all, We just want to let the chooks out

And also... Yeah! don't pressurise PVC, It'll really mess with your day

Dicko
