I don't think Julia Gillard is a puppet, she has a mind of her own and I think a good one too.
I think she had to step in as Kevin had lost credibility over backing out of the ETS. Whether the ETS was good or bad, he folded on his own morals. And that shook my faith in him.
Come on 'back stab'?
Isn't that what politics is all about? They all have a go at that and Abbott has done his own back stabbing. Its the way things are done in politics.
I personally would like to see an Athiest running the country. I've had enough of those who ask their imaginary friends for guidance of our country.
I hope the greens do well but I hope labor get in, I am terrified of Abbott and the libs.

Let the game begin!

Abbott can not take the moral high ground on back stabbing, he's the 3rd Libs leader since the last election!

Never talk politics when your drinking :naughty: so put can away :thumbleft:
I think Rudd did fine and got stabbed because he stood what he thought was right, not what the string pullers thought was right, they were scared of the big mining bosses and unions, Gillard comes in and lightens up on the mines so the bullies win :dontknow: ETS will never be sorted, in will turn into a money making scam for a few companies, no one will be ever happy about emissions unless we all start walking and the cows stop farting, Rudd pulled us through the GFS that we never had, and no one protest about getting the Rudd dollars, Labour will be my second choice and Liberal will be my last, only because the vote wouldn't count if I left them off, Gillard will do ok but she will do as she is told (unusual for a female I know :D ) Liberal have got nothing and nothing to offer, I kind of like Joe Hockey and he is a leader I probably would have had near the top of my paper

Rupe you would hate the Pope being PM  Joe had a sense of humor, maybe a clown but a honest one, would have been a better choice than Abbott, maybe they will bring little Johnny back after this election

Yep... I'd hate the Pope being PM... so much so I'd leave the country....

And yes, Hockey would have been a much better choice.... at least he is a "liberal"...

And that's the problem.... the rest of the "liberal" party ... are actually hard core neo-conservatives... not "liberals" at all...

Anyone that had any doubts that Abbott might not be a Howard clone... only has to look at todays campaign specches...

No carbon price... in the term of his governement

Will keep interest rates low... or lower than the Labour party

Will stop the boats....

etc, etc....

No carbon price... because he doesn't believe there's a problem....

Short of overthrowing the reserve bank.... no chance of making ANY influence on interest rates

And they never stopped a boat in a decade before anyway.... they, just as the current government is doing.... merely intercepted them... and diverted them to Christmas Island and/or Naru.....

(Which just shows that both governements have been successfully maintaining our borders...)

FFS... how could anyone with an IQ above 80 seriously think about having this guy as a Prime Minister...

Sadly... I'm not that impressed by the Labour parties headlong rush to clone itself as a moderate Liberal party... with associated policies... either...

Perhaps the problem is the fact that a decade or more of dumbing down the population... and 24/7 smultzzy crap tabloid TV... has resulted in an average IQ of less than 80...

Honestly Rupert just because you are knowledgeable about AP its a bit much to insult others who may not agree with you. Personally over the last 50 years my life has always been better under liberal than labour but I guess that is just luck :)

Bit hard to draw a correlation between your life and which political party was in power between 1960 -2010 Novaris...

Liberal 27 years.... Labour 23 years ....

And my comments were an address of dispair that relates at times to a perception of the general population.... right or wrong...

Personally, I'm delighted that AP draws such an enlightened, knowledgable and intelligent bunch of people... regardless of personal views or political persaution...

I think that's a bit harsh Nov, no one agree's with Rupe :D but anyone can have an opinion, and politics always causes arguments, when I was in the hotel business people with IQ's less than 40 use to get into arguments about things they never new nothing about, politics was banned from my bar, both parties these days are exactly the same, no left no right, and I actually do agree with Rupe that Liberal have no policy what so ever, all they are going to do is make Labours policies work better, every time Abbott opens his mouth the next poll he has lost another percent or 2, as long as my arse points south he won't win, Gillard could say nothing and promise nothing and Abbott would still stuff up

here's my biggest problem with Gillard - she's cut from the same cloth as Rudd was, and it's hard not to call his government a failure. the ETS, super tax, hospitals, education "revolution", taking on japan over whaling and boat people. all epic failures to deliver any kind of positive outcome.

the other big problem i have with labor in general is that it's just a front for the unions. Kevin Rudd the elected prime minister was ousted by union power brokers like Paul Howes who aren't elected by the people. I can't be the only person to feel uncomfortable with unelected people playing our government like puppets. In her defense i get the feeling Gillard was left with no choice but to take Rudd's position in the end.

Thats not to say i'd be really happy with abbot as prime minister, but if you judge the current government on their performance alone, they need to go.

I guess that is understandable.
Most of us assess the government by what we perceive to be happening to us. We develop feelings that often stick with us. I will never forget the feeling that was left with me during the Hawke years. But as I said luck probably plays a big roll in the events that form those feelings. In the end all polititions are caught in the same economic strait jacket (see The Lexus and the Olive Tree by Thomas L. Friedman)
