Interesting. I can ping and trace 203.17.36.111 or bac.....com.au (see below), but Firefox will not
connect to that site through Verizon. I did not try IE. I believe that the helpful programs here
decided that I was really trying to reach .com rather than .com.au and "fixed it" without bothering
me.

In the printouts several postings above, I find it peculiar and possibly telling (for someone more
knowledgeable) that I can take the final step to BYAP under direcway but not under Verizon, even
though the final step is from-to the same IP addresses in each case.

On the subject of getting another provider, I think I will send a BYAP link to a neighbor on Sprint
and see if it works for her.

Here is the data for .com.au:

OK, over my head....... :geek:

The byap.com.au is just a parked domain under the same hosting as BYAP.com so it's strange that it would be different.

Can you try IE? Always good to rule out local factors as well. The trace to the .com.au address looks much better (the 2nd one is exactly how you'd expect it to look, first one is dodge, see next question). So this is definately a routing issue with verizon or one of their upstream providers - you'd have to report this to them as it's not a BYAP problem.

What is different about the two traces you posted?

I should clarify - Did you do anything differently with the two traces? How much time between them?

In viewtopic.php?p=167463#p167463 I posted two traces: one under my normal satellite internet, one under verizon. Nothing was changed from first to second except I disabled my satellite and enabled verizon.

I tried IE instead of firefox, my default, with same results: unable to connect under verizon.

I was unable to connect to .com.au with my browser as some internet service apparently decides that they are one and the same and redirects me to .com. Ping and trace work just fine under verizon when trying to reach .com.au, but I can not get my browser to cooperate.

My neighbor had not trouble reaching BYAP through sprint mobile internet rather than Verizon.

I've emailed Verizon and hope they will be able to sort it out.

Life would be simpler with no computers, but then I would miss out on BYAP.... No contest.

Joel,
Could you bring this thread to your website server's IT folks' attention to see if there is any chance they are blocking access from the Verizon servers? Verizon works for everything else I need and the tracert (cool tool: thanks, guys!) shows that I get all the way to the BYAP.com (not .com.au, that works fine) website (116.0.17.64) before getting blocked, so it may be that your server is blocking Verizon. Don't have them go to any major trouble, just a few minutes....
Thanks,
Dustin

Fascinating and confusing: yesterday I was suddenly able to connect perfectly, today back to no joy. Unfortunately, I forgot to run a trace or other tool to discover if there was something different in routing or IP# being used, but when I found it working again 15 min ago I ran a trace and found that, without apparent changes, all is good. Let's hope it stays that way.

Joel, if you and your providers are responsible, thanks. Even if you did nothing I still appreciate the effort on my behalf.

Time has passed. Verizon works....sometimes. I think that the IP number is changed whenever the thing is rebooted, so I got a Cradlepoint router, plugged the USB thingy (tech term: pay attention, there will be a test) into it, and all is good. I just switch between laptop and router until BYAP works, then leave it in the router, powered up, and it will connect every time. Very odd, but workable.

Thanks to all for assistance!
