I've been cursing the little buggers because they have eaten a whole bunch of my pond plants over the past couple of weeks. I repotted some pond plants and made the mistake of putting them in their own tub of water for a week and a bit without any fish in with them, and in that short time their numbers have swelled dramatically.

They have feasted on the plants, and I always thought it was the goldies that were destroying them, they were actually keeping the snail population down and helping the plants.

Was thinking about snails yesterday. Some species like a fast bit of flow. I believe these are the ones that climb up pipes to get in the current.

Yes, goldies love snails.

If only we could find a bio-film grazing species that

- breeds slow
- can't take a current.

yep, goldies love them... the one pond which has goldies has almost NO snails where the other ponds have heaps of them... I suspect that yabies like them too as the pond which has 2 yabbies in has a very low population of snails in it....

Thanks for that AM- I have been feeding the goldies with them.
They love em alright I put a heap in the aquarium every day and only a few make it to the top without being eaten by morning.
I don't seem to be able to make a dent in the number residing in the pond.
I am thinking of make a small frame to put into the pond so that
re-location is easier.
