I am afraid you might be right.. I sure looks like thats where the tension is headed.

credit cards are a good thing rupe, but only when given out in a responsible manner. it's very simple to fix the current glut of credit debit - make it law that credit cards MUST be a secured loan. that way you can't loan more than your money in the bank + assets.
this won't stop people that lie about their income and assets, but that's another problem all together.

as an example, American express sent me a prefilled out application for an UNLIMITED credit card. how the hell is that responsible lending? another disgusting thing banks engage in is giving credit cards to people on limited and fixed incomes, again required the credit card to be a secured loan would fix this, since they lack assets or incomes

apparently 40 cars a week are repo'ed in Kalgoorlie oh and 2 houses!

Repo'ed, abandoned or just borrowed for a while C1 ...
