We've been (NZ) making mudslides to coax kiwi kids away from their ps2's and comps. Working a treat the kids can't resist a good mudslide.

Great Idea

One way to have an internet free day is to end up working, going to meetings, etc. Then after a busy week, come back and see you're a couple thousand posts behind....Oh, well...

Well I did it and am continuing until the end of the week, by that time I should have a brand spanking new computer (maybe even Vista :bigsmurf: )

My quest was helped by the m'board disintegrating, taking with it the CPU

Yeah, getting vista! Condolences!

Keep in mind the lower/cheaper versions don't don't any of the stuff
that channel nine showed last night. You will need to do windows update
before you can change your desktop background though.

It is really no more than a XP theme. And wow gadgets, now they didn't rip that off Mac's widgets.

Hope your new system comes with a really good 256mb video card and at least 1Gb of ram Les..... if not take it back and ask for XP SP2...

Or at least turn off all the "aero" and gadget functions....
Don't open multiple windows and/or tabs with IE7 (goes for anyone using IE7) as the program doesn't release all the memory after closing the windows....

Try it... open IE7. Then open task manager and go to "Performance", watch your memory allocation....
open several tabs, open several new IE windows and tabs within these....
close windows and tabs.... look at your allocated memory...

Over time you'll notice your allocated memory nearly double and your system slow ... MS is aware of the problem and XP SP3 is due, but not yet announced... apparantly they're having some problems...

Vista (from a techies point of view) is the biggest. most bloated piece of marketing bulls^*^t ever to have been foisted on unsuspecting users.

Enterprise editions of Vista have some security value and the concept of a 64 bit operating system is great.... unfortunately MS is not only 30 years late in that respect but just hasn't cut the mustard with Vista IMHO...

Unfortunately, that seems to be the opinion of a large majority of technical IT reviewers as well
