Its still being rolled out.

First hives/frames were due to be delivered September and that has happened with a few hiccups.

More hives are being delivered and quality control issues are apparently back under control.

I'm not convinced and I don't think it's good hive management. It seems to be a great idea for the beekeeper though.

I question whether the bees would remove the capping and refill the cells or whether they'd still think they're full due to being capped. I'll stick with opening the hive as I can check the queen and brood at the same time.

On this issue, I can only assume that cracking the cell (draining) will crack the caps to the extent of causing the bees to investigate..

This article from last April, seems to cover most aspects of the device.. I was concerned about using plastic, and how it might taint the honey.. still interested .. :headbang:

Bees are pretty smart they can tell an empty cell from a full cell.

Plus the caps are cracked when the frame is cracked.

Plus we know this invention works what we don't know is its place in bee keeping.

For example:

:funny1: some honey won't flow (willow, tea tree, canola, others).
:funny1: in heavy honey flows the honey might not have time to ripen before all the frames get full.

Bees collect nectar and stick it in the cells. It takes time for it to turn from nectar into honey.

If you harvest too soon the protohoney/nectar will start to ferment.

In a regular hive during heavy flows you would just add another super on top and leave the full super to mature. Nothing stopping you doing that in a flow hive but you would need another super to place on top.

That'd be the same issue with normal hive wouldn't it? Doesn't sound like it'd be unique to the flow hive.

Of course but an additional super plus frames costs not much, versus hundreds of dollars for an additional flow hive super.

i can handle the price, but the buying in USD is total bullshit, by what i can see by shipping prices they are manufacturing here or close to here.... so USD is just a scam.

still planning on getting one one day, but i may wait until our dollar is above the US again so i can get it for less than $600.

I think its a good idea to be careful about assigning motive to people.

Back before the launch of their crowdfunding campaign they said they moved from an Australian to an American site because of the deal they were offered and how it would better suit their business. Back then the AUD was much higher to the USD so it wasn't such a big deal for us. Having the prices in USD is a carry over from their deal with their crowdfunding site.

lol i didnt assign any motive at all, i just said its a scam to still have US dollars, whether that be because they are being scammed in thier deal with ingogo or whoever they were is none of my concern and is irrelevant, but to have a product manufactured here by people from here and have to pay in a currency that hurts us (and is kind of deceptive in the fact we have no idea how much we are actually paying for it) is just terrible, almost every site has the option to pay in multiple currencies.

Using the word scam does imply a motive.

Can now tell you that bits of the product are being manufactured here while bits are being manufactured over there.

Also they now have an AUD version. Still expensive though.
