We had the truck out doing a delivery this morning with a stack of gear on the back. Going around a small roundabout the rope tying on the pallet of clay snapped and whoops, away it went, pallet and all.. By the time it was realized that something was wrong, it was a little way down the road when it became obvious the fish tank had moved a little.

Oops, better fix the fish tank... Hang on, wasn't there a pallet of clay on here before? Turn around and head back to recover the load and retie it on with a new rope only to discover that what was originally 40 bags of clay on the sandy verge, was now only 10 bags of clay.... :dontknow:

Oh well, serves us right, should have used the straps rather than bunnings rope... Guess it has made at least one persons day, "Yep, found em on the side of the road, fell off the back of a truck"... :D

Bugger.

Who was driving the truck? Perhaps be a little more careful when turning corners - they aren't race cars....

Yeah that's how he does it... You see him sitting there in his avatar, quietly having a beer, but boy he can move like grease lightning if there's something free to pick up... :)

Had a similar thing happen on a farm I was working on last year.

Driving the trucks was normally my role, but I was tied up with another job so one of the young guys drove it to deliver canola seed to the seeder. Flat out round the corner and off came the pallet of seed.

He didn't notice until he arrived at the seeder.

They found it but a few bags of seed were damaged - at $18k per pallet it adds up pretty quickly too.

Each bag is 15kg and the seed was applied at 2.5kgs per hectare

$18k per pallet? Wow, thats high priced seed. Sounds a bit like our corn seed, can be $100-200 per 50lb bag.

Bummer about the loss Joel. It could have been worse, a tank could have flew off and damaged a vehicle or worse. Might be a good time to reexamine your insurance coverage. Making sure the company is safe.

Sounds like you guys need to do Knot Tieing 101.
Nothing wrong with rope if you know how to do truckies knot.
At least you tied it on, which is the mistake I made once, loaded up a heap of skirting on the racks, chit chating away with the bloke at the shop, finished loading, more bla bla, yep ok seeya mate.
Off I go to the first set of traffic lights and the skirting ended up half on bonnet and half on road, WOOPS.
At least nobody made off with skirting. :support:

Na we are going to chuck all the crappy ropes away, the rope actually broke... Don't buy these ropes from Bunnings, they are cheap stretchy and not good. Considering the cost of the loss, a couple more proper straps are a good investment..
