what special toys do you play with at work?

I go out to local waterways and collect and identify aquatic macroinvertebrates. Some I take back to the office for further investigation and recording under the microscope

Oooh I'm jealous

In my regular job there are about a half dozen different tools in each room but I can't show you their faces

On the side I mill timber and build timber pieces (furniture and landscape construction). This is my favourite toy, I mean tool . Watch how quick Sidigi jumps on this one

That's not fair .. having those sorts of toys... let alone coming on here and bragging about them Jaymie...

i guess my least generic tool at work would be this



aside from that we probably use a plain old screwdriver the most

there's 40kg of sawdust just to cut that off the log, it's 4m long, 1.2m wide and cut 65mm thick - total weight knocking around 350kg. I know that isn't a lot of weight, but when it's one fella and his two helpers (left hand and right hand) moving it, then 350kg starts being a noticeable stick of timber.

You might of guessed, in my day job I'm a mobile sawmiller. I pack the sawmill up on the back of my little truck and drive off into the wild blue yonder to slice up someone's tree's. It's a tough life (sometimes ) but there is something great about pulling up to some old grey, cranky looking log, all the bark is long gone, the sapwood is all but rotted away over the years, old mate can't tell you what species it is, but you start peeling off layers like pulling apart a burger which is too large to put in your mouth and instead of finding lettuce and tomatoes, you just find layer after layer of fantastic timber just innocently sitting there, patiently waiting for someone to come along and release it from the log so it can be used in some project around the house. A project where visitors will say 'oh wow!' and the owner will puff their chest out, let out a knowing smile and tell the story of the big old grey cranky log they had down the back.



You get to play with some really terrific pieces of timber and you feel so overwhelmed by how amazing nature is, how tree's are like fingerprints and if you don't think about every piece you are cutting in it's own right - you'll miss out on some part of it's magic.

BANG - then it hits you...

OOPs didnt i say:
its a hand held water conductivity meter includes, Resistivty and TDS (which is basicaly the same as conductivity) also PH and ORP (oxegen reduction potential) as well as temp,

i just wish they did one with Disolved Oxegen as well, i asked the rep at the confrence i went to and he sadi they were looking into but its likely to be an expensive article, the one above costs over a $1000 but its bloody good ( it floats )

id like to try your toy out though would make mince meat ( ot at least a big hole ) of my garden and then i could expand my system
