All this trouble to circumvent and rort the democratic process. Why?

Why not just engage yourselves with the process by an active awareness of both the political process and the people and principles involved...

Then act and endorse your democratic right by voting... once!

Hi Rupe,

Just having fun Rupe. :) I guess it's also a way of dealing with feeling disempowered by the political system of this country. But I am genuinely curious about the checks & balances of the voting process too.

On a slight tangent, I believe one of the biggest problems of democracy is that it does not guard very well against corruption. This is just another case in point.

I can't speak for other posters, but I do that too.

Did that too! ... even though it was a complete waste of time. I live in a very safe liberal seat (Berowra - Philip Ruddock). Even the senate voting was futile - the pre-election polls showed that Kerry Nettle (Greens senator) wasn't going to get a quota to keep her seat.

Same here Scottie..... but what was a very safe seat before the election of > 10% is now probably considered a marginal at around 4.8%......

First time in nearly 100 years the margin has been less than 10%.....

Bet we see a few major road works programs and a new high school over the next few years

Are you in Gilmore electorate? Two-party swing looks like it was reduced from 9.4% to 3.4%. Where did you get 4.8% from? Maybe I calculated wrong?

Berowra (my electorate) reduced from 13.8% to 8.7%. There's no chance of our fuc^H^H^Hmember losing his seat any time soon. :(

Or, in my case, an F3 tunnel of dubious merit.

Yep Gilmore Scottie.... was going on election night figures/projections based on the swing being recorded/reported....

Hadn't seen the actual declared results...... 3.4% certainly makes it maginal..... thanks.

I'm in Mayo and the sad thing I noticed is that the swing against Alex (ex minister for travel rorts) was at the expense off the Greens and independants. Alex polled pretty much the same number of votes as he did at the last election.

He only holds it by 5% or so now though as opposed to 14%.

Hi Jaymie,

Is that the swing, or the difference? Two-party swing is half the difference. (ie. a single "swinged" vote adds 1 to the new party & subtracts 1 from the old party)

So that would be a 6.5% swing. Slightly more than the country average I think.
