found a pic of the Stockyard Creek track...I believe this section was the bit Bernard talked about in his book "Green Mountains", it was dynamited out of the cliff face...no wonder the "Banshee" was upset!

A newspaper clipping telling of the Stinson rescue. I am looking for some pics I have of a young me at the crash site. It was a very difficult walk over some of the most rugged and beautiful terrain I have ever seen. I did this trek after the yowie experience, so I had a sore neck from looking around

That's a really interesting read, Don. 'Specially the bit about the wallabys being eviscerated. It reminded me that on my tramping in Lamington NP I had seen several possum heads with organs attached, really fresh, and looking as if they had just been pulled off.

Had forgotten that

However, I keep an open mind, although I am secretly rooting for the Yowie.

Well all I can say is that I used to creep around all sneaky like with nvg thru all sorts of... close country. Never saw anything I couldn't ID. Then I worked in a pet shop in Byron Bay and had people describe this mythical bird they saw. All bizarre colours and stuff... then have them say 'theres one!' and point out a magpie. People have wacked out eyes and brains sometimes.
So ya while when I was a kid I used to think about yeti while camping and stuff... yet to see anything. Saw a casowarry once... about the least fun I have had running thru wait-a-while in memory and I wasn't even the one it followed...
As to finding kills. I have found monkey remains people had eaten before. Confused moment for me. I can see a lot of things that mightn't want to eat possum heads. Me for starters... but sounds like a cat type thing to do.
I'm not saying theres nothing out there, but theres usually a good explanation..... ever heard koala's fight?

Yeah, sounds like the biggest, meanest critters fighting! I wasn't fazed by the possum heads, in fact, I had forgotten all about them until I read that article. I also think that powerful owls could be the predator there.
Yep, people often are unreliable eye witnesses, and misidentify all sorts of things...I often see it where I work in Mental Health...but even 'normal' folks in a 'normal' state of mind can easily be fooled by the unexpected. I don't except myself from that category.
I once found a stack of about 20 dead dogs under some tin way out in the bush...big 'uns, little 'uns, all shot through the head. . Just at that yukky stage, bloated and maggotty. I was very much alone, and it really freaked me out for a while. Went into stealth mode and paranoid until I got the blue blazes outta there! Monkeys would be worse.
I agree, there is a low chance that a large unidentified primate is out there, but all the same, I think there IS a chance, and it's fun to speculate!
