I run a small retail business and was contacted by phone yesterday whether I would like to sponsor our local bowls club by buying an ad in their scorecards for $495 +gst. A lot of our clientele are members of the club so I said yes and could they email me a proof of the ad. The invoice was emailed the next day with a proof and I noticed a few strange things. 1. spelling mistakes on the invoice 2. the printing company is in Qld (I am in WA) 3. they needed me to approve it by close of business today.

So I rang the bowls club and they confirmed that they have no knowledge of this.
The letter head uses legit printing company in Qld but the phone number doesn't match up. the scammer's phone is 07 5525 0909

I have reported to Scamwatch but not sure if it will go anywhere.
Anyway a heads up for for everyone about this SCAM

Yep, there are a number of these types of scams around.. Another one I had a while back doesn't ring, they just send out invoices for advertising in their newspaper. I imagine there would be a fair percentages of businesses where it would just go straight to accounts and be paid..

We also get a few of the "you're domain is due for renewal, if you don't pay this invoice you will lose your domain name." There's the letter with the detachable invoice on the bottom for payment. Looks pretty damn real because they know your domain and mailing address, but just a scam..

I received a letter a few years back from the police department responsible for organising the WA Police Safety Handbook warning of scammers targeting people that had previously advertised in the book, they were simply sending out duplicate invoices the following year asking for payment, but to a different PO box address... If they'll try and scam the coppers they're obviously not concerned with being caught.

I also received a letter once about advertising in some business directory, I didn't even read it, just filed it in the round filing cabinet... then a couple of months later I received an invoice, which went in the same round filing cabinet. Shortly after I received a demand letter... also binned... followed shortly after by another demand letter stating they were referring the matter to a collections agency and my credit rating would be affected.

At this point I started to take notice and rang the phone number. I spoke to some sheila that informed me because I didn't return the very first letter with the box ticked stating I didn't wish to take up the offer to advertise in their directory... I had agreed to advertise with them!... and pay about $600 for the privilege!!!

I sent them a carefully worded fax, stating I had sent a copy of it and their other correspondence to the dept of Fair Trading... never heard from them again.

well they called up this morning asking why I havent replied, my staff answered the phone so I got her to put them on hold for 5 mins then said I was busy and get their number so I can call back.
so now I can confirm the scammer is indeed the publishing company. At first I thought it was someone just using their company logo.

This is the SCAMMER

Currumbin Waters
U 8b/ 10 Nuban St

bunch of crooks, mongrels , scammers , hope this thread shows up in google search for anyone else looking.

The sign out the front is very distorted in Google Street View, but it looks like it is called Currumbin Printing at the shop.
