I have been holding of logging for the winter in my forest. Its so dry, that I do not dare to operate a chain saw.
Since we had no real winters for 3 years, the cattail in my big pond have not been noked down.
It caused some serious problems for the geese and ducks that sit on island, each spring. I even built a little house for them, which they like.
Each Spring the same pair of Geese comes, they bring last years offspring. They inspect the place for a week and than leave. They are very good parents, because they mostly come back with the same flock, they raised on my pond. 2 or 3 weeks later they come back without the juniors and raise the next bunch.
They love the little hut on that island on the pond. I love it every spring when they come back, count how many have survived and than watch how the next grow up.
This year the cattail had been such a tangeled up mess that Mom and Dad a hard time to get to the hut.
So since the pond is so low, that I can put on some run of the mill rubber boots and got the weet - eater out, with a brush blade on it and started to clear the stuff. That is not a fun job, at 90 degree.
After 2 hours I took a brake and went to the house needed a drink and refill the eater.
30 minutes later I was ready to go back to work.
When I got out of the house the whole Island was on fire. I am in the middle of a forest, that is so dry, if an ant eats chilly and takes a fart we will burn.
So I called 911.
The fire department is all neighbors. They did the job.

My biggest worry and theirs, that any spark would be carried of, land in the dry fuel and start a real fire.
It did not happen.

But the joke, I do not dare to use any power equipment in the forest, it is just to dangerous. Than I cut down the cattail in the pond, surrounded by water, the stuff is moist and I am about to burn down the county.

The hand held equipment is supposed to have factory equipped spark arrestors on them. I've never seen sparks from one, but my area is generally not super dry.
