I got a parking fine issued to my name... and car rego.. for a supposed parking offense in Surry Hills.. when I was actually in Newcastle...

The parking officier had transposed two of the rego numbers when writting the ticket....

When I called the RTA... they found that the make/model and colour of the offending car... (which should be noted on the offence).... didn't match my rego details... and cancelled the fine..

If they've issued a fine for an offence you did commit... but in someone elses name.... then, that's not you... and you don't have to pay it... until they find out and send a corrected one out to you...

I heard a story of someone getting a fine when their car was in for repair. The photo was from a rear aspect camera and showed his car being towed behind a Tow Truck.

The other story I heard was when someone drove thru a speed camera got flashed but was not speeding. Drove thru a couple of times to confirm and received numerous infringement for not wearing a seat belt.

Mistakes happen as per Rupe's post. Call them up and see if you can sort it out.

If you were guilty, call them, advise of the error, and pay it IMO.
They will catch you eventually. Otherwise you are just delaying the inevitable.
And I don't like the sound of someone else being blamed for your mistake personally...

I got a traffic fine for "Leaving a taxi unattended in a taxi zone". It was my van which I left accidentally in a taxi zone, however my van isn't a taxi. So I queried it and they waived the fine.

I'd query it with them, normally every i must be dotted and t crossed. If it's not your name then I'd imagine they will waive it. But don't just leave it, you have to go forth full of energy and demand that they sort out this ticket that was sent to the wrong person.

The police woman wrote a name where it says surname that is different to mine and then wrote my full name where it says given name

I disagree, even if you did the wrong thing and they have messed up the paperwork you have grounds to challenge it and get off the fine, it is certainly worht a call to find out what the go is, usually it is too much trouble for them to change things when it is their stuff up so usually they waive the fine.

Good Luck.

yeah Tasmanian police are not in the same league that the Australian ones are. I feel that if they can not do their work well, then I should take advantage of that.

Maybe that is why there is lots of bogans in tasy
