Cool..

No power here at the moment, pretty crappy day weather wise in perth, but fish are happy because the ACDC pumps are adding air to the tanks. And.... Joel is happy because he has tethered his laptop to the mobile phone and has internet capabilities while most in the suburb are suffering.... YAY... :)

Are you AC/DC pumps automatic? When power goes out here I either have to fire up the generator, or go out and switch a bunch of stuff around to get my 12 volt system up and running.

Mine is automatic, with 12v and invirter,it will get a good test next week as the power is going to be off for eight hours while they work on the line .I have run it that long before just to see how long it will go for .It will be differant when I know I can't just flick the switch back on .I will park my fwd close by just in case,I can hook up to the battery in that if the system fails.

Good planning Joel!

I have a bottle of oxygen with a closed solenoid which opens and delivers O2 if the power goes out.

It's not a matter of if... More of when.

My system is going to be run completely off solar eventually, but for now I rely on grid power.

Well the power was off for nine hours and it was still going strong and the fish didn't seem to notice any difference.I have two 25 watt pond pumps, one in each tank run through a inverter off a single battery. It is good to know if the power goes off during the night I won't have to worry till the morning. The carp don't seem to need any extra air.

I have a second air pump connected to an inverter and 80amp/hr batteries with a fail over switch. So in a power outage I get air to the tank and also the air lift biofilter in the tank.
