I came to wonderful Oz in 1965 on a ship, Mum & Dad were what was known as 10 Pound Poms, Dad was a plasterer and Oz needed more Plasterers so cost 10 Pound to come over. I started school in Oz in Kindy aged 5 and because I could I finished in Year 10, and have been working and paying Taxes for 32 years, I have voted in every election since I was 18 and even got fined once for not voting, I have held a Publicans License (Hence me being a P'Head) A Security Officers License, a Drivers License, a forklift and crane license my missus is an Aussie and my 2 kids are also, I barrack for Aussies in the Cricket and AFL is my game man I have been in Australia longer than Half the Aussie's in the country, but I'm still a Bloody Pom....apparantly
I came over on Mum's passport and never gave it much thought, she passed a couple of years ago and when I got documents I found out I needed to become Nationalized, no problem will give the Govt another $250 and fill in the papers..............
...............and sit the citizenship test, this is to prove I know about Australia and Understand the Language (No one understands the Aussie Language...unless you have been here all your life) well not really a problem except I can only do test in Perth, Bunbury or Albany the closest being 220k's away and I have to sit there all day and wait my turn and if no spot then wait the next day, is this anyway to treat a Model Citizen? What if I fail the test, who do I blame? Australian Education System?
I actually asked 20 sample questions down the hotel and most aussies got less than the required 60% right.... So what happens? they are not Aussies either
Does this mean that all elections I voted in are no longer valid? this would mean we all have to vote again
This would be a good thing, knowing what we know now
I starting to sound like a whinging pom,.... but I am....am I? :? but I think the system for people in my situation, is ridiculous, I had no choice when I came here, I have no memories or known family over their yet I can be deported if the Govt so feels
Glad I got that off my chest, Almost Beer O'clock, (How Aussie is that, hey)

There's really only one question that needs to be asked anyone seeking citizenship....

"Name Australias favourite beer"

Anyone that says "Fosters" should have their passport stamped... "never to be admitted"....

Any other answer is acceptable...

I have had a few quiet ones at the Cornwall. Fenny still owned it then. "Wednesday" was the bar manager. Funniest thing though, I swear Shorty Walters was still sitting on the same stool 15 years later when I slid in for a snort :drunken:

aaah the memories of a mis-spent youth :)

Excellent Rupe.....Correct as always :drunken:

Jaymie  XoXoX

Curnow, have many stories of Fenny, my family actually owned it until 2005 and I have a collection (Or 2) of Fenny"s Glasses, older people use to come through regularly with Fenny Stories and people that use to work with as well, I have a photo of an Elephant standing inside the front door with a caption Everyone is Welcome at the Corny, we tried to do the same in 2004 when circus was in town but the elephant stood on the trainers foot before he got it out of the compound and no one else would bring it up the street

A friend from India was sitting her test last week and so I thought I would help her out by going through a sample test with her. I got most (well, alot) wrong. When she sat her test she only got one question wrong. I was amazed by what they expected you to know.

Erik makes you wonder how people that don't speak english and have no Australian education actually pass it and out of 10 people in the bar that were all Australian Born only one would have got 60% that is needed to pass, all except that one were under 30 and didn't know who Don Bradman was, one actually thought our national flower was a sandgroper (Narrogin High School has a lot to answer for)

It is unbelievable but sadly true, I should flog them with a black pudding  My son (18) got stung by a bee on the weekend, I said to him stung by a Muhammad Ali, he said what, so I replied "Float like a Butterfly sting like a Bee" he asked who is Muhammad Ali a Terrorist? I didn't go down the Cassius Clay road, he probably would assumed that this was a antique pot or something
