Well I suppose it had to happen sooner or later, I have just learnt that someone caught a Murray Cod in Waroona Dam recently. I had heard of Silver Perch coming out of both Waroona and Harvey Dams and now it looks like there have been illegal liberations of Murray Cod as well.
The rec fishers have been lobbying for years trying to get the eastern states natives introduced into public waters over here to no avail so now it looks like someone has done it themselves.

Wooo hooo....... I'm going fishing in Warrona... :headbang:

(Oooopps, not out loud Joel... )

Oh dear, that's terrible, next thing we'll have another lake grassmere on our hands... :D

I scanned a discussion paper recently http://www.fish.wa.gov.au/docs/mp/mp174/fmp174.pdf Some interesting comments in there about the fact that most native species are in trouble or wiped out because of land degradation, salinity etc. Plus we have been stocking with trout for the past 70 years or more. This makes it very difficult to know what negative effects eastern states species will have, because what we have as native aquatic ecosystems now, are often quite different to what they were 150 years ago.

Murray cod, golden perch and Bass were release into the swan river years ago according to the above paper.

Hmmmmm - spent many an hour catching redfin as a boy & trying hard to believe my father when he said how good it was to eat, but we were 100's miles from the coast - wouldn't waste my time on redfin now, KG whiting far better to catch & eat, but i'd love to try & catch Murray Cod like one i saw in the Aquarium in sydney
BTW has anyone heard a rumour / story/ fact that someone is trying to grow KG's inland???? i've heard this about 4 times in last 6 months but can't get any confirmation. sadly too salty for AP - what a pity
cheerST

Mangroves in your GB ....? A small price to pay for no vegetables :) Besides, vegetables grow in the other, smaller system :) and are those prawns in the bottom of that half submerged mangrove growbed? And anyway, I'm sick of actually buying my Nori when I make sushi.
