I took my mate out in my tinny the other day, it was a great morning for boating so there were a few boats at the ramp dispite it being mid week, one bloke smirked as he asked us how far we were heading out. We set off and watched as the smart ass in the big boat drove straight over the sand bar and only just making it over because it was near high tide Within 10minutes we arrived at a little reef close to shore and dropped the pick. I deployed some of my secret burley mix and set about rigging up. Two half Pilchard baits were dropped into the water at the back of the boat and allowed to drift away with the current. We didn't have to wait long before I hooked and landed a small Yellowtail Kingfish, I gently released the kingie and dropped back another bait................BANG!!! My rod bent over and I was hooked up to a very large and angry fish. I could feel the head thumping through the rod and called it for a Pink Snapper and sure enough 5minutes later a large Pink surfaced near the boat and I asked my mate to net it. My mate was more than a little bit nervous after loosing me an estimated 20kg Blue Groper at the gaff less than 3 months ago but he closed his eyes and swung in hope, this was the result. A 7.3kg Pink Snapper. ![]() My mate then caught his first ever Snapper, a slightly smaller model at 4.4kg but still a very nice fish. We then pulled anchor and headed for home, after my mate was sick over the side You don't need a big boat to get amongst the big fish! |

I'm from Rocko grunta. I love my fishing and would fish every day if I could. I've also caught an 10kg Dhufish from the same spot I caught the Snapper, all good fun to pull out of water that is only 6-8m deep! |

Damn that's a nice fish......... Do you do much land based fishing around Rocko MM? I fished down at Point Peron on saturday morning, meant to be a black day in the almanac but I didn't even get a bite, also had a look at pegos briefly, then stopped at Kwinana jetty on the way back. Few bread and butter fish being caught at the jetty. Heading out tonight hoping to catch something bigger than herring for a change. |

Nice one mate. Unfortunatly up here you do need a big boat because you dont want to be in a 12ft Tinny with 16ft Crocs around. |

you must have some awesome spots there MM, i used to fish down there heeps, one day behind G Island i had a big due on that i recon would have gone 20kg and that was in 7 meters of water that was cristle clear, awesome exciting stuff to see a fish of that size on the end of your line just under your boat! he got away though. good stuff MM, makes me want to get back into it down that way just the drive puts me off. |

We do a bit of land based around Rocko EB, mainly fishing for Snapper, Sharks and Mulloway. I have done fairly well on all but the Mulloway. ![]() Bronzie ![]() My biggest Snapper from the rocks. Big Dave, I have some pictures of myself and two others fishing from a 12ft tinnie in the croc and Shark infested waters 2km off Melville Island and also the Vic river (and some of my mates going for a swim in the Vic ) I also followed one of the Tiwi locals through chest deep water to get to a great spot for Mangrove Jacks.Did I say I love fishing |

I'm going to be doing some chasing of the mullas this year.. About 15 years ago I put in some long hours chasing them but had no luck, but I reckon it's time to give it another go now. I've read up lots, got my new alvey reel and rod, time for some late nights.... |
