I haven't been on for a few days because I took the opportunity to get away for a little R & R down south before the madness of easter school holidays started. A friend and I went down to Denmark, a quiet little town in the south west of Western Australia for a bit of a fishing trip. We were chasing the illusive salmon a favourite amongst many fisherman here in W.A. for their fantastic fighting ability, and basically because they are one of the best fish you can hope to catch from the beaches and rocks.

We headed out west of Denmark to a little place called Parry Beach. The beach has four wheel drive access and is well known for it's great fishing as well as beautiful scenery. After heading along the beach for a few kilometers we found a spot where there were deep gutters in close to the sand.



Above you can almost make out the steep drop off in the sand. There was a drop from where the car is parked, down about 3 feet to the actual beach where the waves were crashing. The beach then dropped off very quickly into some deep gutters, so it didn't take much of a cast to get into deep water.



Looking back in the opposite direction, you can't even see where we came from, it's a long beach with much of it rather flat and shallow until you get around to the far side where we fished. We arrived here at about lunchtime and fished till just after dark, constant fish and bites the whole time no matter what baits we used. We caught a stack of big fat herring half a dozen big skippy and some whiting. No salmon unfortunately but then that's how it goes with salmon, sometimes they are there, sometimes they aren't.

Back at the entrance to the beach there's a beautiful little caravan park/camping ground nestled amongst the peppermint trees. The camp grounds have no power but fires and dogs are allowed and there's toilets and hot showers if you get in early. Below is the view down from the caravan park onto the beach.



Just to the right of the beach are some rocks, so you can find a place to fish no matter what way the wind is blowing.



A beautiful spot to visit if your down on the south coast of W.A., especially if you have a 4x4, and there's also a large inlet that can be flowing out towards the end of winter or after large storms.



Unfortunately I was unable to take pictures of the fish we caught because the camera went flat, and the spare battery was also flat. I had to pinch the last few pictures here from the internet, I only managed to take 2 pictures before the camera went dead.

Now I will have to put some serious effort into catching salmon up here in the metro area.

Yeah, a likely story indeed. C'mon just admit it, you didnt catch any did you??

It really was one of the best days fishing we have ever had... Luke was getting annoyed because he stopped fishing to clean the catch, but I kept reeling them in, adding to his work load.....

Started to throw a lot back half way through the arvo, choosing only to keep the bigger ones.. And yes, it's all true.....

Nothing quite like a cool day beach fishing. One of my favourite pastimes too. Hope you enjoy your feed. And please, let us know when the Aussie salmon are in town.

Salmon and about 2000 fishos have invaded margaret river, contos was packed shoulder to shoulder... redgate the same.
I came home and smoked some trout.

I've never been very successful beach fishing so never did much. I just got back form Orange Beach/Gulf Shores Alabama and watched a couple guys reel in a couple white trout and red drum. Way different than inland marsh fishing, I may try it next trip to the beach. Give me something to do in the mornings while the girls sleep in.

Camping and fishing at the beach, dogs welcome, clear water. Nice....very nice.
