Cool... Had my first snapper session today but not like most would suspect.. Here in Denmark (south west W.A.) there's a bit of a legendary fishing session that happens most years about this time. The inlet here is cut off from the ocean for most of the year with a sand bar but when you get the first big storms and swells of winter the ocean can wash some water over the sand bar dumping salt water into the inlet. The snapper and king george whiting living in the inlet get the smell of salt water and all come rushing down to the mouth of the inlet trying to get to the ocean. Yesterday morning was such a day, huge swell, salt water poured into the inlet. Went fishing yesterday and caught one snapper, checked the online size limits and it said 51cm, mine was only 45cm so threw it back, only to find out today the limit here is 41cm. grrr. Today was a different story went this morning and caught a 54cm one. Also caught a couple of nice cobbler. But the strange think about catching the snapper is where you catch them, in about 1-2m of water from the side of the road right near town at the dog exercise area.. Nice fish, I have caught them in the inlet before when there is no water coming in from the ocean. Looks like they are bigger this year as the bar didnt open last winter from memory. |

You skimmed my post Charlie..... Yeah bar hasn't opened for a couple of years, very contentious issue down here the manual opening of the bar.. I assume you were in your dinghy TM? Here's the other two from yesterday, I'm heading off there again this arvo, though I think the secret is out, last night there were 3 other lots of people there fishing and I reckon tonight will be pretty busy. Those fish look so sad. I wonder if they were smiling before they were caught. |

Not from a boat, I used to get them from the shore. Go to Poison Point and cast out towards Porpoise Rocks, pretty reliable spot to get them. |

sometimes it pays to keep your mouth shut. I came back from a place called four mile creek 2 days ago with a bucket of salmon, best fishing i have had in ages. the neighbour pulled me up for a chat and seen the fish. so i told him where i got them from. i went for another fish today and there were half a dozen people in my spot. I should have hid the bucket. |
