Met up with some friends this morning at penguin island for an kayak sailing trip out past the five fathom bank. There was a nice SSE wind which got us out to coventry reef in short order. I pulled up on the inside of the reef and just as I started to wind my trolled laser pro in to flick it into the white wash for tailer, it gets hit and screams off. After several super fast runs I get a glimpse of gold and then off it goes again. Eventually I get it alongside after a bit of yakyoga (was on the wrong side and kept darting under the outriggers). I put it back as I thought they were supposed to taste very ammonia like -though just looked it up in the book and it got 3 stars!
We headed further out in search of tuna bust ups, though not birds, no bust ups and a cool 19 degree water temp. We met up about 10km offshore for tea, then I stuck on a 6m 150mm red head laser pro to see if I needed to fish deeper and got hit within one minute. Not massive, but dinner!

More trolling for nowt and the SW came in and I headed back to Coventry - this guy hit the 1m chrome pink in the washes:
and also went back as the bonnie was enough for dinner (though do quite like snook)
I then packed the rods up and put the 'pedal to the metal' - was hitting 16km at times and averaged about 12km/h back to pengos.
Was a great day out and good shake down for the coming pelagic season. Just a few more degrees warmer..... and the Spanish should arrive
