Well today Ballarat's beautiful Lake Wendouree hosted flotilla of kayaks (and a boat) trying their hand at catching the resident Rainbow or Brown trout.

The drive up was amazing with a brilliant white front everywhere the closer we got to Ballarat. I knew we were in for a rather chilly morning, and the 4 degrees on the cars outside temp gauge backed it up. I was getting pumped the closer i got to arriving, i couldn't wait to get the yak in the lake as i had never fished it before!!

I was greeted with a familiar face, Paps, and then a few other yakkers and finally the boys from We Flick fishing. In typical 'IceMan' style I stood around gas bagging instead of setting up, but it was good to finally put some names to faces... and name/face combinations i have now forgotten...lol

Once setup i ventured out to say g'day to a few that were already on the water... all up approx 15 yaks and 3 blokes on a boat!!

After saying g'day to a mate that i fish locally with i trolled away with a pair of crackjacks and i missed my first hit, and a good solid one at that.

i worked around for a while then headed back towards the launch site to meet up with Paps and it was up that way i hooked into my first fish, a cracking rainbow trout, that took a liking to the CrackJack 48 MR

20 minutes later i had a nice brown hitting the net and showering me in the process!!

after a bit more trolling Paps hooked his second Brown, his first went to a Damiki Ripper, on a CrackJack 48MR

after a lot more trolling, and a lot of casts we started to make our way back to the ramp and i then dropped another mid fight, just my luck.

a few had already packed up, and some more were at the ramp already. So a quick chin wag (well not that quick) and it was pack up time and a reflection of our spoils!!

All in all it was a fantastic day, maybe a bit slow for some, but a rather relaxing and enjoyable time and one that i will organise again before the start trout season this year!!

Cheers Charlie,

I love my fishing... if i had the land i'd incorporate aquaponics with my love of fishing with a stream fed lake that cycles through the AP system
