Is that a striped grunter, sooty grunter, banded grunter, or just grunter? :)

Um, just a Grunter Grunter. I didn't have the chance to ask it's first name :).
I am taking the kids and going tomorrow with some friends down the beach. My boy and I went down late this arvo and pumped yabbies for an hour for bait for tomorrow, then went to a different creek and set a crab pot for Muddies. I will check in again afterwards with the results (if any)

cheers ,
Axl

Yeah but I have no idea what a grunter was so I looked it up and there were sooo many sorts...

Funny how fish names are so different for even the same fish on different sides of Aus.. Ran into a guy down south while we were fishing, he was from over east and it was like speaking a different language..

"Caught a few tommy rough and some, silver trevs, tried for jewfish last night but didn't have any luck."

Ahhhh, so you caught herring and skippy and tried for some mulloway.... :)

Went to shark bay back in the late 80's and stayed at Steep Point about an 8 hour drive from the denham hotel but 30 minutes by boat, 8 of managed to drink 72 (a pallet) cartons of stubbies in 9 days, to get out through the south passage to the open ocean is a mission in it self, but once out there you know why they call it steep point, about 200 feet of straight up rock face, people fish off the top, not for me my knees went week just having a peek over the edge, I preferred the water at the bottom, not so far to fall, once through the south passage lines in a trawling we go, I hooked up immediately and was fighting something for 10 minutes, then line goes slack, wind it in and half a yellow fin tuna that weighed 3kg (for the half), didn't want to see what chomped it, we caught a range of fish, plenty of Spanish mackerel some 4.5 feet in length, man they wear you out, heaps of snapper (Before bag Limits) a couple of Red Emperor and some Blue bone, we were camped in the bay across from Dirk Hartog Island, we would take the dinghy across to the island and pick oysters off the rocks and open them up and slide them down the throat, (probably not the smartest thing to do when your with a heap of blokes, "all revved up an no where to go" ) The downer to the trip, a shark was in the bay 1 night and a bloke was hand line fishing off a rock jetty, we were talking to him about the shark and then he hooked it up, and couldn't stop line peeling off, he wrapped the line around his hand and yes cut it off clean in half, one of our guys boated him back to Denham, no hand though we couldn't find it, but a fantastic trip, got sick of fish and oysters fo a while after that though

Went out this morning in the boat (12' punt with 3.5 hp)
It was pretty good fun, we got onto the water at dawn and fished till about 11.30, unfortunately I didn't take into account that the channel down there has changed a lot since the last time I went in the boat (9 yrs) and we ended up with about 6 inches of water near the ramp which went we got out and walked the boat for the last 500m or so. Still and all it was a fun day, I got spooled early in the peice by something that picked up the live prawn and didn't stop,( I think it is still going now :) ) and my fishing buddy got busted off by a couple of big salmon, (Different from Joels Salmon)
Anyway these are the reults

Cheers
Axl
