Your salmon resembles our blue fish. I have a good recipe for them. Bleed fish, clean as soon as possible. Soak in milk over night [refrigerated], cut onion, garlic, capsicums, and any other veggie you see fit for stir fry. Fry fish add veggies. Cook until tender. Prepare rice, separate fish and veggies. Put the veggies on the rice and toss the fish in the garbage. Eat the rice and veggies  :drunken:

I have an aunt and uncle that specialize in kid fishing. As Uncle John would say, "you see kid fishing is different than adult fishing." Uncle John is one of those fishing fanatics that has tons of great stories, and some of them are even true. He just got done writing a book about catching a fish in each state of the USA. I expect I'll get one of those for Christmas, I'm looking forward to reading it. Odd thing is, Uncle John isn't at all interested in doing aquaponics, he is definitely in it for the fishing and taking his grand kids and other related kids fishing on the summer trips.

Fishing was ok sometimes when I was a kid (we lived on a little mud lake for a few years where you could catch sun fish and blue gill by putting a bit of just about anything even styrofoam cup on a hook with a sinker, no art to it) though now days I definitely like the aquaponics better.

We have the same fish as your Bluefish (Pomatomus saltatrix) here in Oz, we call it a Tailor due to its method of killing it's prey by attacking and biting it's tail off with their sharp teeth, they are quite nice to eat fresh.

The blue in the pic was missing half of his tail. I had assumed it was from a shark. Maybe his mates were hungry.
I pulled this off the bottom using a whole bonito. It was getting embarrassing because everyone on the boat including myself thought it was the reef. 45 minutes later it finally moved off the bottom.

This was the bait used I think it was around 8 pounds. Not sure about the grouper though you have to leave them in the water. If anyone wants to go sometime let me know I have extra kayaks, rods and plenty of places to go. Cheeeers, jon

Wow! that's a biggun!

I wet a line this arvo down at Cocoa creek, on the Cape, got 4 little bream in about 1/2 hr. I was actually just checking out the spot to see if we could get down to it. we are still having rain at the moment and the young blokes in 4x4s chasing pigs have torn up some of the tracks and my ute won't get down them. except for this spot tho. I am planning on a return trip in the morning with a mate :)

Oh yeah , how is this for bastardry?. people launch their boats into a section of the creek that is righ beside the main road, as I was leaving a couple of blokes waved me down to see if I had any spare wheel nuts??? While they were fishing someone came along and pinched one of the wheels off the boat trailer, and took the wheel nuts for good measure! They had a spare wheel but nothing to hold it on with! Some People!!

Anyway Tight lines all

Axl

So tell me Axl, they took one from each wheel to get going again right?

BTW the bigger the fish the bigger the ability to produce offspring.
We would be better off leaving the biggies and taking the little ones.
...but who am I to talk

Bought my first fishing kayak today. Haven't picked it up from the shop yet - but am itching to give it a try. I guess I'll have to buy a paddle first though

That's a bugger pinching wheel nuts... I went fishing with a mate once and when we came back to the boat ramp someone had stolen the boat trailer.. Now that's was hard to deal with, when it's getting dark and you have no way to get the boat out, and you don't tend to have a spare boat trailer at home, plus you don't want to leave the boat on the beach over night...

Well we did have fish for tea last night :)

I got 2 grunter (big enough to keep) and my mate got a heap of bream (small enough to throw back heehee :) ). Also found that the first spot we tried in the morning had had campers/night fisherman down their and had left some beer in the grass "Lucky Beer".

But the main delight of the day was travelling through some beautiful, relatively untouched country, surrounded by wildlife only 1/2 hr from our houses. There were 2 goanna, a couple of snakes, Jabirus, black swans, Wedgies, hawks, skippies........ and we only saw 1 other person out fishing and passed 2 utes on the road when we were off home.

Axl
