Fished the LA River a few weekends back. the Tilapia bite was hot!!! Overall, we caught 16 tilapia. But, they were all pretty small. Probably competing for resources. Caught two sunfish. One small bass. The temp was 105 f when we were getting the bite.
The bite lasted for about an hour, getting a fish every few minutes, and in some cases as soon as the hook hit the water.
I released them, but probably would have eaten them if they were a bit bigger.....

The other pictures are from a different day, but they are to show the environment, and a local crawfish.

A major freeway lies just beyond the river in the picture. The river definitely has a stigma. Many people fear the river, and think they will catch communicable diseases from it. It does have a lot of visible trash, and in the last few years, many homeless encampments have sprung up along it's banks. Much of the water that runs through it is reclaimed waste water, and runoff. I love it, and it makes for a fun day in the city.
