Went over to penguin island the other day for a fish. Magnificent little spot just of Rockingham about 1/2 hour south of Perth.

Some people walk across the sandbar, and there were some gromets with boogie boards walking over while we waited for the little ferry. Chest deep water with a stack of fishing gear? Na, we'll pay $12 for the return ferry that goes every hour. Must be getting old..

After a quick walk across the island we were greeted by this sight above. Beautiful deep water with broken reef and the ferryman told us that there had been some salmon here. We fished for about 5-6 hours, caught a couple of nice tailor, a good flathead, squid, and some throwback fish. Saw some small salmon schools swimming past in the wave but they weren't on the bite, no matter what we threw at them.

Luke holding up a couple of the catch. You can see in the background that the water was very nice for shore fishing with it's deep water and broken reef, the biggest problem is the birds, as a major bird sanctuary there are thousands of birds around, and when your throwing around an unweighted mulie, the bloody Terns are onto them really quickly making it almost impossible to fish unweighted.
Had to include the photo below, I kept laughing at my mate.. He brought a suitcase to stick his fishing gear in and walking behind him was rather amusing.
