Hi guys, I was reading up on interesting medicinal herbs for addition to some alcohol I'm brewing, and stumbled upon this description:

Product Description

Brahmi, Bacopa monniera, is greatly respected as memory enhancing herb. Eat fresh or use dried in a tea. A sprig placed in a cloudy fish tank clarifies the water overnight. Brahmi is native to India and prefers warm, wet soils in a protected, partially shaded position. Drought and frost tender. A perennial ground cover, growing to a height of 0.15m x 0.60m.

I thought it interesting the claim. They're clearly suggesting it wont hurt the fish...

Didn't know about the clarification of a fish tank? must be for a small aquarium maybe . . . .not 1000 litres? The plant is only small. Margaret (SWMBO) has it growing in the GB still in the soil pot, and uses it regularly for herbal teas etc.

I've grown it before in dirt, it doesn't seem to mind wet feet so should go well in AP, it is supposed to improve memory also :dontknow:

This reminds me of a funny story.
Mitch was at work one day and told us he had come across this herb, it was ideal for improving the memory, you just eat a bit each day.
Joel says "That is interesting, what is the name?"
Mitch stands with his pointer finger on his cheek, looks to the sky and says " I can't remember."
Fits of laughter from all around and Joel announces," it doesn't seem to work very well then, does it?"
I reckon that would make a great cartoon :funny1:

this grows brilliantly in AP and i have it growing all through my growbeds and often harvest and dry. Drunk in a tea it is quite mild and carries no bitterness however when eaten fresh the benefits from the bitterness on digestion is an added bonus to its memory rejuvenating qualities.
I have read papers on studys into its use as a treatment for brain injuries and disorders of the brain due to the possibility of assisting in the repair and regrowth of neural pathways in the brain...

Im hoping its true because i forget everything... i can openly admit that after returning to study last year it helped me greatly with my concentration.

It can also be bought in a powdered form and mixed with raw honey.

I just trimmed about 2kg off my plant, and still can't see where I trimmed it, it almost covered the entries side of an IBC. I always forget to eat it though, only made tea once (while studying for exams :) )

I can't eat this in the morning without gagging at least once, I might try blending some up with a small amount of water and doing shots

If your eating it raw for the benefit of the bitterness then you kinda have to suck it up. If you mix it with something to stop the bitterness it negates the benefit.
If your looking to assist memory/concentration you can dry it. I just hang mine in the shed and let it dry naturally.
You can then drink it in tea with dried goji berries and some lemongrass (just a serving suggestion).
if you have enough dried herb you can make a tincture.

To do this you take a jar,
fill it with chopped dry herb,
then top it up with vodka (or your choice of booze) making sure to cover all the herb,
leave it for 10 days minimum, shaking daily,
after that you strain off the herb, keep the liquid.

Now if your super keen you can use the left over liquid to repeat the process and make it extra strong or just take what you have daily... About 5 - 10 mls

Truer words have never been said !!!

My think was more along the lines of 'I will remember to have a beer every day, but probably not some tincture...'
