A few varieties of seed I broadcast in the GB never came up and some of these popped up and don't match any of my seed packets.
They are normally more prostrate than this one and the leaves spread out about twice as far.
I harvested the larger, lower leaves off it assuming it was spinach, god only knows what I ate.
This plant is about 100mm/4' tall.

It's off topic but to be more accurate, the other seeds did germinate but the sprouts died from being baked on the media or being pounded by heavy rains or a combination of the two.

Ahh cool, thanks Azira!
I'd thought it was but then saw that the pic on the packet looked completely different.
Maybe it'll change it's shape as it matures?

Yeah it should do.

Looks like baby spinach to me, you can harvest it like that when it's small, and it'll pop back up like grass.

Or let it grow and you'll get the big leaves.

I prefer them small, but that's just me.

Thanks Colum, that fits right in with how I'm gardening at the moment.
I just harvest whatever peas and beans are big enough and a few leaves off the plants for stir frying, sounds like it'll fit in well.

Spinach has round leaves when small and they go triangular as they get bigger.
Not much chop as the weather gets warmer up here

Anybody?
I'm thinking turnip or beetroot but with my willy nilly approach to seeding it could be anything...
:?

Lol, well it's definitely not spinach. Bender sounds like he's on the money.

Hah, I had the same problem a while back - kept wondering why my silver beet had funny leaves and kept growing roots, then remembered I had planted a white beetroot cultivar a while back !!

roots were quite tasty and no where near as messy as red ones!
