Are onions good for aquaponics? I have already planted them I'm just wondering if i should be counting on them or not.

Spring onions and tree onions grow really well in my system, I haven't tried regular brown, white or purple yet, but expect they will do just as well.

Red and brown onions are growing like crazy atm.

I just sprinkled the seeds randomly in this bed:

Only the ones you use straight away are good the ones you want to keep seem to have to much water and spoil quickly

I've had good luck with yellow and red onions growing in the system. I don't know about the keeping qualities of AP onions, I just pull one when I need it (most of my onions are in soil beds). I know there are some things you can do to extend keeping time and that Sweet onions don't keep as long. Here's some info about storage from one of supply companies - http://www.gardeners.com/how-to/harvest-cure-store-onions/7366.html

I had spring onions grow super well in my green house 6 months on and they still hadn't gone to seed and were tender, red onions grew well - search for 'karmen' as a long storer (general) maybe drop the water height when they mature so not to promote rot. Might be a good candidate to trial CF vs FD
