I dig these up every spring and have them only a few times a year. I was wondering if anyone has tried them or has any knowledge of growing them in either aquaponics or hydroponics. I am getting to old to dig them up from the rocky soil. Here is the wiki of the plant.

Well I haven't tried the wild version but the regulars leeks grow very well and are in the same Genus so I would go for it.

They have a very long germination time but I think I'll try it. I was planning my system to be a raft but not sure if that would work well. I guess some experiments are in order.

I hunt leaks every spring. I think they are very particular about where they grow as they seem to be in the same spots every year. Not sure if they would work in AP or not. I would put the seeds in the fridge or freezer a few weeks before planting to mimic what happens in nature.

assumeing they are like other onions, you should be able to easaly spout em in a jar of water and transfer to a Raft system.

Wild leaks (also known as "ramps") bring about 25 bucks a pound. If someone finds a way to grow them domestically they will be rich.

I have tried planting the seeds in a wooded part of my property but not much luck. The transplanted ones keep coming up but doesn't appear to be any new ones. I have some more seeds and will do more experimenting once my ap system is operational.

Mallow, aren't they annuals? If so then you are producing new ones every year.

Well the ones I dig from the forest still have the old stem from previous year along with broad new leaves. I honestly don't know.

I'll have to pay more attention this year if the damned snow ever melts and the world turns green again.
