Water Chestnuts harvested today. Probably would have been larger if Melbourne had warmer climate??? Anyway this is it.

I found that my water chestnuts were on average much smaller from the gravel beds than those grown in a bath full of soil and manure.

I think I turned 10 corms into around 200 corms, of which around 150 were of edible size

That is a lot of growth so early in the season, nat! Some of my Chinese Waterchestnuts (Eleocharis dulcis) corms have just one shoot only 1-2cm tall so far, and the others haven't yet started.
Is that one in the photo located in a particularly warm and protected spot?

I cheated a bit as they didnt all die down over winter
its not a super warm spot but it is quite protected from the cold

yea, but we later built a bigger bed for the pond plants and moved them so they look a bit beat up again now
